Has anyone done that yet? I can't find it anywhere around.

When I had my 2500, I had an adapted generic drive in there (pin mod) and it worked great. After grabbing the 5K I was curious if the third party drive in my 2500 would work in the 5K so I swapped it over.

It didn't work, since then I've tried a couple of different 3rd party drives to see if I could get one to work, but none of them worked properly.

I've got the proper akai cd drive installed in my 5K, I know the Akai drive is more expensive, but at least you can be sure it works as it should.

I tried a 3p drive too. It would get power, so it would open and shut. But the 5000 would not recognize it. I read that it worked in 2500's, so I figured I would give it a shot. It looks like Numark/Akai Pro have re-done the drivers so that only their unit will work. That is kind of cheap, but I guess every company's goal is to make money. Maybe they can spend some on more firmware programmers. When is 3.0 OS coming out?

I thought Akai cancelled OS support already with 2.0

I was able to get the pin mod to work. One problem you will run into with non-akai drives is that you will need a bracket to secure it in the 5000. As long as you dont move your unit too much or yank the drive door it will work fine. I have a lot going on right now but I will try to post the specs in a few days.

I may even post my first YouTube video.
