How can I transfer MIDI sequence to computer?

I have a Midisport 2x2 and also the Digi002 rack system. My MPC2000XL has a built in ZIP drive. The problem is that the discs formatted for the MPC can't be read on the Windows computer and when I save to a Windows formatted disc the PC can't see the MIDI files. I want to do my drum sequencing on the MPC and then bring the MIDI-0 file into Pro Tools to trigger a drum sampler.

Is there a way to dump the sequence file either through the Digi002 or the Midisport 2x2 to the computer?

Or, is there a way to convert the MIDI file to a format that the PC can read?

I've searched all over this forum and can't seem to find the steps to do this.

from your post it seems to me you are saving the midi to disk and then once you put it in the PC you format it..
remember that formatting a disk will erase all the data contained.

you should try to format the disk on the PC and the put it in the mp and save the midi
take the disk out and try reading it now with the pc.

No, that's not what I'm doing. I must not have worded it correctly.

I meant that I've tried formatting the ZIP disc on the Windows PC first and then saving the MIDI file to the ZIP disc from the MPC but the Windows PC can't see the file on the disc for some reason.

I've also tried formatting the disc on the MPC first, then saving the MIDI file but the Windows computer can't see the disc and says it's not formatted.

I am trying to read the ZIP disc on a Windows98 computer and I'm wondering if this is the problem.

Would purchasing an external USB ZIP drive and then connecting it to the WindowsXP system I'm using for recording resolve this problem?

Problem solved.

I got the information from David at VST Service. I needed to update the MPC2000XL operating system and it works perfectly fine now. With the old OS, the MPC2000XL writes in a format that can't be read by Windows computers.

The OS that was on the machine was 1.14 and I replaced that with 1.20. I bought this unit used recently and I'm fairly new to how it works but the frustrating thing is I've asked a dozen people whether or not the OS needed to be upgraded, explained what I was trying to do and got the same answer every time........"no".

I got it mainly as a unit to learn the ropes on. I know it's old technology so I'm willing to put up with some of the hassles to a point. I posted on a couple different forums trying to get the answer hoping that someone with experience would point me in the right direction but no one could. I guess that most people have just moved on to the newer ones and not many people left know the technical stuff for the older units.

I'm pretty sure that OS 1.14 can write midi files to zip disk that are readable windows computer, as long as the zip disk was formatted on the pc.

why dont you just record the midi onto a midi track in pro tools?

I'm doing short chunks that will be used in PT and because of the number that I will be working with it's really not practical to do that. I'm creating a library of beats that I can work with to quickly arrange new compositions. I can do it the way I want to now because of updating the OS. It's a great idea though and I didn't think of that so it's an excellent suggestion if I'm doing a complete song.
