Akai X7000

Anybody know about this Sampling keyboard... I've seen it for sale cheap around me and I'm looking to get a sampling synth...

Any ideas about this... I think it's 12-bit, but other than that I really don't know anything about it...

i think i t only plays one sample at a time, but i could be wrong, they are cheap, and i think they look nice, if you can find a cheap one go head and get it, i saw one for 50 bucks, plus, you already have and mpc so it won't have to be your main piece, check it out[/url]

okay i was wrong, it can play up to 6 sounds, but it can only audio trigger one at a time, as if you were going to hook it up to a drum trigger, it looks like it could be handy, and i am sure you can figure out something, hey, it's and akai keyboard sampler, if you find one that don't break the bank........ GET IT!

i've been checkin out this board for about a month, not this exact one
but in general, i thought it could be a nice addition for not too much money, and if you can find the ak70 it can expand to 16 sounds playable instead of 6

I was thinkin that too...

Though I prolly wouldn'e be savin too much on it... It's 12-bit... They say it's close to the s900 as far as the sampling engine(just a lot cheaper)...

So I'd prolly be just programming drums on it if anything... Yea I been checkin that one on ebay... I might pick it up... I mean if I can get it for under 50 bucks... Even if I rarely use it it wouldn't be the worst thing...

I was wondering could someone please explain what benefit is it to get a sampler that only samples at 12-bit? I mean, does it give you a better sound than if you just resampled a sample from 16-bit down to 12-bit using the mpc4000? If I'm missing something then please excuse my ignorance.

The re-sampling options of software can sound decent, but they cannot capture the distinct qualities of a 12bit sample and remember there are many different 12 bit samplers. Emax's have a particular sound. So do SP12s, SP1200s, S550's and S900s. All of that involves the analog preamps and outputs, as well as the analog to digital converters used. It's hard to tell where the sampler's character comes from.

In the end, that's what makes it sound good or bad to us. But don't get me wrong, in this day and time, a 12 bit sampler is really not the answer. It's just another texture or flavor for your stew.

The X7000 is the keyboard version of the s700, the s700 was an old akai rackmount but it didn't have good editing and flopped, the s900 was the first akai sampler that became studio standard cause of it's ease of use and good editing capabilities. The s900 got outdone by the s950 cause of the filters and better editing than the 900... hope that helps you. Probably you'd be better off saving for an ASR10 or EPS16 as a sampling synth, EPS16's are relatively cheap. Also the roland W30 is a good sampling synth with good filters, but the sequencer is glitchy.
