Hi Gang,
I just downloaded the program editor software to make programs easier but i havent been able to.For example,i downloaded a drum kit called AMBIENT_KIT from the akai website and when i transfer it to the flash card i see the pgm. but once i upload them to the mpc i only see the wav. samples.Does that mean i have to reassign every pad again?I thought once i had created a drum set in the editor i could just transfer the pgm.into the cfc card and open it in my mpc.
Is this possible? :?:
Thanx

The program files only tells the MPC which sample name belongs to which pad. Therefore each sample needs a unique 16 character long name. The MPC also only checks for the sample files in the same folder as the program file.

So...

If you name your samples

Ambient_Kit_1_BD_1.wav
Ambient_Kit_1_SD_1.wav
Ambient_Kit_1_SD_2.wav

and assign them to pads A1, A2, and A3, the MPC will only store that

Ambient_Kit_1_BD
Ambient_Kit_1_SD
Ambient_Kit_1_SD

are assigned to pads and will assign the same sample to pads A2 and A3.

If the .wav files, are not in the same directory as the .pgm, nothing will be loaded as the MPC will not find any samples that match the names.

Solution
If you are using MPC Pad 187 as your program editor, simply give each unique sample a unique name and choose "Export" from the File menu of the application. It will rename the samples correctly and place them in a correct folder.

More information can be found on the MPC Pad 187 Help Page

Hi Stephen,
thanx for your response and sorry for not being clear.
I am using the mpc1000 program creator for PC. not for Mac
so let me try to explain again:
First i open the pmc1000 program creator software and under the file menu i choose open.
then i choose the AMBIENT_KIT.PGM file and all the drums are automatically nicely assigned to each pad.
Now i go to the program creator and under file i choose transfer and save everything in the compact flash card.
now i go to my MPC1000 sampler and under load mode look for the file AMBIENT_KIT.PGM so all the sounds will be automatically assigned to the pads but i can only see the wavs.
any idea what i am doing wrong? :?:
thanx
Louie

Hey changuisero where did you get the "pmc1000 program creator software" from?

By RedMoon Sun Aug 15, 2004 7:06 pm
If you copy any program and its associated wave files to the same
directory on the C F card its should load fine. They will automatically load
if you have a folder named "autoload" with your programs and samples in
it when you turn on the MPC 1k.

"i downloaded a drum kit called AMBIENT_KIT"

From where? Are you sure the files were in a format compatible with the software? If it was an MPC2000XL PGM and the audio was in WAV format, why don't you just load it as is since the MPC1000 would read them.

Otherwise the software was generally designed around creating your own kits from PCM WAV files. Importing unknown files from outside sources is not specifically supported.

The program works well for me.

Guys i found the problem and i am embarrsed to say that i wasn´t loading the program on the MPC1000 i was just loading the directory files :?
Anyway if somebody has the same confusion just go to the program mode and under program look fore the pgm.name.
But here is another question for u:
I f i get the EXM128 expander how many kits can i load?Is it worth getting?

I just got the mpc a few days ago and i wasnt too impresed at first but i am staring to love this baby!

cheers and thank u all for your input! :D

as far as I know the mpc can handle up to 24 kits - if there's enough memory of course.

by the way, I also wasn't impressed at all the first days, but the more I switch this sweet thing on... :D just waiting for some upgrades... (I above all miss a delay such as time-correction in step-edit-mode...)
