Do You Guys Remember...

Do you guys ever remember who you sample from?
Like if I was to run through your list of beats and I chose one would you be able to say who you sampled, whats the name of the track and what LP did you get it from???

Im asking because I dont remember unless its from a small list of Artist that I hunt for to sample. I been only making beats a little bit so my knowledge on records is not that big. So maybe some of you that been digging for years would have more knowledge of who you sample.

I can say maybe more than half of my tracks I can remember the artist, but not the name of the song.

I dont have to remember. I have been cataloging all that info since I first started making beats. I have the samples, the artists etc

Most of the time I do remember where the main sample came from, but those little ornaments here and there I throw on beats, I would say no because they're just random stuff I grab anywhere.

Sometimes I hear a sample I chopped years ago playing in my head and I be like ''damn where's that from?'' and it turns out to be some sh!t I never made into a beat, like its saying ''Hey motherfu©ker!! remember me?!!'' Somehow I remember which cd or record.

Never, and i get asked every time I show a beat to someone. Sucks I should start writing it down.

Yes & No. I keep the sample in a folder named for the sampled song, but not the sampled artist.

Some I know off the bat, and others I don't know where to begin to look for the record.

Yeah I hardly remember who I sample unless its one of my favorite artists to sample.

I get people asking me all the time and they think I just try and duck the question but in reality I just dont know.

It's a good idea to put the record itself aside that you sampled from, just in case you find yourself in a situation where you need to re-record the sample, or need the publishing , artist, album or song info later. Just put a couple crates aside for "sampled from" records.

When I chop I name the folder as the artist&song and also place that info on an excel spreadsheet. When I load samples I always know where they originated.

One of my more organized (to the point of OCD) friends catalogues everything by a julien code system. When he chops he just codes it by date. He keeps a list of all the codes on both his computer and a log book incase his computer dies

Today I finished my main loop and wanted to go through some records to lay something on top. Before I dropped the needle on the first record I wanted to check I heard a sample in my mind....dug it up and yes that's was exactly what I was looking for. It was even in the same pitch as the beat.

Some beats I remember the songs and artists I sample from. Especially the beats that I like. Some of them I can't remember, especially the whack ones.

Now I name the sample and the program after the song and artist. Like Funkydr_JBROWN .

I have an excel spreadsheet and a big azz notebook no BS. Some cats think its a joke until its time to pull something from the files and then what. I like having all my info available for when I sell beats. Especially since I waive all liability for sample clearance.

I usually have a note book next to me to catalog samples. I always name sample according to the artist, album and track.

for example, AFyoung4a-1, would be the title track off Aretha's "Young, Gifted, and Black".

works for me, except when you forget to record it in the notebook

Thats nearly the way I do it. But I often leave out the vowel. So "young" would be "yng". I do this cause I like to put info about the instrument in the name "S" or "SN" = Snaredrm, "B" or "BD" = Kickdrum, "BS" = Bass, "GTR" = guess what

I also write down the whole name on paper.

There is no way I could remember every sample in over 300 beats. Ever.
