Yamaha HS50m / HS80m???

sup my MPC heads.

so i just got my HS80m (pair) delivered today and errmm i THINK i like em.
(not sure lol)

i have a fairly small / medium boxed studio and i hooked up the monitors to do a lil test and they just didnt sound as i expected. lol

now i kno my ears are gonna have to get used to using these monitors but i am also wondering if i may have made the wrong purchase for the size of my room.

so my question is this... would it really matter on the size of my room if i had the 80's or 50's, would i get a different sound?

are the 50's actually a better monitor then the 80's?

i dunno kinda lost here.... this is my 1st monitor(s) purchase. any advice will do.

Keep the 80's. The 50's sound like they look...small. They produce very weak bass. You need to make sure your monitors are positioned correctly. Also make sure the settings on the back are set according to the characteristics of your room.

im gonna sit here tonight and run a few test with them... to try and find that true sound for my particular room.

is it also true that you have to "burn" these monitors in... meaning after a lil while they will start showing there true sound. (like a fruit going ripe). lol

Speakers in general do take a little time to settle in, hopefully the sound will improve with some use.
I don't think those particular monitors will be very bassy though, have you considered getting a separate subwoofer?

Messy, you might also want to consider some acoustic treatment for the studio to reduce the reflections and standing waves.

It's gonna be difficult to critically assess your monitors in an untreated control room/ studio.

To help set up your monitors correctly a set of audio test-tones and maybe a sound level meter would help.

if you don't tune it, how do you expect the best out of it

when you guys says treat your studio how you mean... like put some of that foam stuff on the walls etc?

gotta cosign on the 80's... i have em and love em... my buddy has the 50's and well... like stated above they sound small...

although i have considered buying the 50's to use as reference points for mixing (common size for car speakers) and playing @ night since i live in a duplex...

i have the 50's, i would've gotten the 80's because i have a monster size room, but it was a little too much for budget. i don't regret it, the 50's are great monitors, everybody knows what they are.

i bought the 80's for $400 a while back

also some1 mentioned getting a subwoofer... i thought the whole point of having the 80's was could you would not need the woofer.

so for the ones who have the 80's already are you using a woofer alongside these 80's or are you just using them solo.

got the HS80 aswell, really like the sound. Like explained in the manual, there should be a 1.5 meter distance between your speakers and the walls of your room. If you ain´t got the space switch the Room Control on the backside of the monitors to -2 or -4db so you get a good result

I seen set of hsm80's with sub for 9 bills, I think that's pretty good deal for the set
