For me (MPC 1000), I make all the tracks thatll be in the song, in the first sequence. Then I copy this to the number of sequences that I want, and mute tracks accordingly.

Is this an efficient way?

Ya that's the same way I do it

i used to do it like that, but now i just transfer either 4 bar or 8 bar loops into PT and just sequence over there
lot easier and quicker than tracking out each and every track for like 3 to 4 minutes each. turned out pretty long just to track out a beat. then i just mix it in PT and bam

I like creating a couple of sequences on the 4K, e.g Intro, Hook... Then I route all tracks through my mixing console and record each sequence in Cubase. This way I got some more options as far as rearranging or editing before I bounce the finals.

mpc 60

different seqs for the arrangement, then i put them together in song mode.

i add a 2 bar seq with just a kick drum as the first seq before the intro starts. this allows for any lag time in pro tools.

i midi up the mpc 60 as a slave to pro tools.

i solo each track in the mpc 60 and record them into pro tools. it does take longer to track out this way, but i like it because it keep the true swing of the mpc for me.

then i got my beats all tracked out in pro tools and i can do extra drops or fly sound in if i want, but the rough arrangement is there and all sounds are seperated.

i also track out a stereo mix first, just to have a reference and a back-up stereo mix.

i copy the sequences, for every instrument in my beat (seq 1-main track, seq2-drums/snares, seq 3-hats/shakers, seq4-sample) and so on. then i track each sequence out (whether it be 8 bars, 16 bars, w/e) then loop those inside Cubase.

thats just how i do it...

making a sequence with ALL the elements i want in the song, then arranging doesn't work the best for me.
basically, i don't want to define all the elements of the song before their is an arrangement. the arrangement helps me work out where things should go, what is needed. rather than the other way around.

i find it better to get a basic beat and maybe a bass line or melody, then do an arrangement, say 128 or 256 bars, using the mpc sequencer. then i convert that to a song. now from this basic structure i build up the arrangement by playing samples/instuments over it.

all arranging is done in the mpc.
