HELP! Can't Eject MPC500 from Mac

Hi all! I just got my MPC500 yesterday (my first MPC). I already made some samples so I wanted to load them to the MPC. I go to the USB page and connect it, that works fine. On my computer (Mac OS 10.5) the removable disk shows up. The first time, I loaded a file to the wrong folder, but it ejected fine.

I plugged it back in, moved the file to the correct folder (yew folder) and tried to eject it but now it was telling me "The disk 'MPC 500 Disk' is in use and can not be ejected at this time." I quit the apps open which were Recycle! and Reason and it still would not eject. I then quit iTunes and it ejected then. (None of which made sense because the MPC does not use any of those programs and none of the files I transferred were in use.)

After ejecting it this time, I tried to load but discovered the file was the wrong file type (it was an .akp file, which I thought would work, considering it is an "akai production file"). So, I plugged it in again.

This time I transferred the .wav files that I had to it and again I received the same problem, saying that I could not eject the disk, even after I had quit EVERY program. Becoming frustrated I just unplugged everything and went to sleep and restarted my computer, thinking it might help. I get on again this morning and I am having the same problem.

I want to transfer my files to the MPC but it is being a huge pain. If anyone else has encountered this problem or heard of the problem and knows a way around it, PLEASE let me know how you fixed it. I am very sad

does this happen every time? My 1K sometimes does this with my mac. I just power the mac down then disconnect and restart

Yes, it seems to happen every time I plug it in (I have tried 4 or 5 times so far). I seem to have gotten it to eject now, I had to wait like 5 minutes before it would let me eject it but it finally did. So I might just have to do that from now on. Thanks for your response though!

Now my concern however, is that I had loaded 12 .wav samples into my "yew" folder, but when I go to load it, only one is showing up to be loaded. I'm thinking I can just create more folders and transfer each file into its own folder. Unless someone has a better idea?

you can get a card reader and just swap the card

you may know this already but the transfer time from your mac across to your mpc500 is really slow. depending on how big your card is it takes longer to connect and it takes longer for the files to be copied across. by longer I mean significantly longer than a usb stick or whatever you might be used to transferring files onto.

when you drag the files (assuming they are named so that the mpc can read them and they are the correct sample rate, etc) you need to wait for (1) the progress bar to appear and (2) the progress bar to finish and then disappear.

that seems simple but I'm just trying to help. if the files aren't there when you look on your mpc later then either they are the wrong format, wrong sample rate or were not copied across in the first place.

i run exactly the same OS, etc as yourself and have no problems.

with the ejecting issue

rather than powering down you mac, go to your desktop menu bar, and go down to "force quit", then highlight the "finder" and click relaunch.

iTunes.



My Dads computer cant do sh!t with iTunes running.
(And then of course he somehow finds a way to get huffy with me about it)

Thanks everybody for your input. I seem to have it all working now. It's ejecting fine (I just have to wait a little while, even much after the progress bar is gone) and I am able to locate my files now.
