Questions about my new MPC 500

First, please excuse my "frenchy"-english ..

I have 2 questions around the MPC 500 I recently bought.

1) I putted samples in my new 2go CF, in folders but...
When I want to load a sample from one of my folders which are Hy2rogen kicks, hats, snares etc. I simply can view one sample, the first one. Where are the others ? Yet, there are in their folders...
Maybe there are too much ? (around 1000 per folders..)

2) It will hard to explain..
I want to play some of my samples, not by the "One shot" or "Note on" mode but by another way.
I explain : When I hit a pad (just once, like in One shot mode) my sample will be played, but if I hit the pad again, the sample replays from the start, and replace the previous one (to have not the both plays together)

press mode
pad 6
scroll right to Voice Overlap
move cursor down to where it reads "poly"
hit the pad you want to make the change to, then scroll so "poly" changes to "mono"
done!

Wow!

That is probably not impossible, but it would be hell to preview with the scroll wheel.
I dont even want to imagine trying to scroll through a thousand snares with that wonky cheap wheel!

I do not know if that would cause a problem with being able to preview, but its probably just not a good idea.
I'd suggest 200-300 samples per folder at most.
I would take the 1000 samples and put them in 3 or 4 separate folders.

Another possibility for your previewing problem could be that the samples are not in fact 100% compatible.
I have had that problem.
I once loaded 200 apparently compatible snares onto my CF card from my computer. Then after reinserting the card into my MPC, it couldn't read roughly 30 of them for some reason.

I could have re-encoded them I guess, but since I already had so many I just deleted those ones.

Here's just a thought, because I was having the same problem but realized it was just user error. The manual makes it seem like to navigate files you use the cursor left and right and new files will show up, not the case, which I discovered. Once you push the cursor as far as it will go to the right (so that you are in the folder where your samples are), you need to use the Data wheel to look through and choose each individual sample.

You may already know this, but I was having the same problem you are describing this morning and realized that that was what was wrong.

+1 Maybe an encoding problem, maybe too many files, i'll check this and let you know.

Don't think so because I already know how to load samples, it's just for my 4 or 5 folders with 1k samples into.

I also wanted to know how to play a sample with all the pads, with a note per pad..
I explain myself : let's take a guitar sample (just one note), i want to play it with all the pads, like I would do it with my keyboard.

The 12 levels button at the top is the quick way. Unfortunately it does not offer all 12 notes, only a few major notes across 2 octaves or something.

(All notes across all pads and banks automatically should be on the top of the list when somebody finally cracks this OS!)

Its okay for very simple things. But if you want to be able to play every note you will have to make a custom program on another track and assign the same sample to each button (not copy, assign), and adjust the pitch and various setting for each button. This is a long tedious process, but the good thing is you only have to do it once. After that you can reuse that "keyboard" program in other songs and just replace the sample by reassigning a new sound to the buttons.

I apologize if that sounds tricky and complicated, but there is no other way to really explain it. I had to figure it out myself because no one could explain it to me either.

You can also get "Keyboard" programs from various places on the internet for free.

The "few notes" I was referring to is the 12 levels button, so you already know how to do it.

As far as I know those are your 2 choices.

Either use the 12 levels button to automatically map out 12 notes across multiple octaves (2?), or set up a custom program manually to play 12 notes per octave.

I created programs, it's not very long to do, and much more easy to compose.

I'm going to disturb you again

I got a serious problem which makes me crazy!!

That's the second or third time the mpc does it to me..
Yesterday I saved my program and my allseq&song in the same folder, nothing wrong..
I loaded them yesterday night to continue it, no problems.. (there are 4 sequences, intro, verse1, verse2, chorus)
And tonite, I've just loaded my seq&song and program 10 minutes ago, and my 2 first sequences disappeared.. there are "unused"....

I really can't understand what's happening... I loaded the good files, no mistakes...

I should let you know that I set the midi assignment to chromatic in bluebox though because thats what has been working with the keyboard controller I'm using. So it might not work right on another controller because I think the standard midi assignment is the "other" way.
It works fine on the MPC pads though.
