Ensoniq ASR-10 help, for ASRonians.

and i repeat allready in love withthe ASR... was a good decision

I just realized that my ASR 10 rack and mpc1000 dont play in sync if they both play at the same bpm.... they are not midid up.. i just hit play on both and realized that after running for a little while they get out of sync.

Then I tried tracking a beat into logic... Then set the same bpm in logic and realized that the audio is a little off...

I know I can slave it to logic, but sometimes I like to use the ASR sequencer...

So Im assuming the ASR bpm is a little messed up... Anybody else got this problem?

How do you work around it?

I have already recorded a whole session of vocals to a track that I made in the asr sequencer and tracked into logic, so its too late change the bpm in Logic.... I only tracked 4 bars so its not ALL messed up... it works, but doesnt loop as smoth as I would want it to.

yes thats also what amde me wonder.. you said "not midid up" you mean you dont have them even connected with midi cables?

how do you expect it to be sync?

and the cabling is only the simplest part... you will have to setup (in menues) the mpc,the asr AND your Software Sequencer accordingly to get these all in sync

i am in the process of sampling and chopping a drum loop


okay... i know that for memory limit reasons you copy only the layer of the original
sample recording without Data = PARAM ONLY

did that... made new instrument as the next of the 8 buttons, but when i want to select the correct layer the window where i should do so, shows me only a * for LYR aswells as for WS and i am somehow not able to change it....

i tried different ways.... also instead of copy layer i tried create new layer etc... it all works when i DO copy the DATA + PARAMETERS but thats not what i am supposed to do... otherwise i ll hit memory limit pretty fast

uhm.... according to a YT tutorial i just watched i shouldnt copy the layer but the wavesample and PARAM ONLY

did that 5 times... so i have 5 WS and 1 LYR now but when i have set the start and end for the WS and want to proceed with the next one it automatically jumps to WS 5 when i play a key etc.... so i find myself unable to chop the other 4 WS accordingly

here yee go:

---------STEP BY STEP CHOPPING-------------

Take your sample.

Assign to root key.

Go to edit layer: change your pitch table to "no pitch" so you don't have to worry about a root note changing if you copy the drums all over the place. Gives all sounds a root note of c4 regardless of key range.

edit pitch: assign low and high key (hi and low should be same key if on one)
You can use the root key page to tune/fine tune the sample.

Now go to cmd, wave, copy wave sample, copy parameters only (not parameters and data). you can keep it in the same layer if you want, im not gonna get into all that im lazy).

itll say "wavesample 2 created": do that for as many chops as u want.

then go to the edit page, select what ws you wanna work with, go to edit wave, forward no loop, **** with the start and end points.

Finally, set the new key range for the newly created wavesample.

Don't hit the keys. Select the WS with the cursors ; UP/DOWN.

thanks very much, that makes perfectly sense and i did just that (after restarting so i start clean)

so i made 13 WS out of it


BUT: still i can only edit START/END of the last in this case WS 13 (same as before with WS 5)

also when i am not pressing keys inbetween

the really funny thing is I CAN NOT CHANGE START/END Value for WS 1

i can do change them for WS 2-12 BUT I will only hear and can only edit the point from WS 13



any idea what i missed?

no i got it.... you gotta set new Key range BEFORE you can edit Start/End of the next WS

ok, i think i got the basics now, and chopping etc goes quite fast, much faster than i was with JJOS 1k

gotta say the sequencer is really weird... couldnt find anything like a step edit or at least somethign to delte single sounds (events) in a Sequence

Thanks for the response... But you misunderstood me a little.

I simply meant that logic and my MPC seems to have perfect sync at the same bpm... The ASR doesnt... I already have the MP and the ASR slaved to logic... But like I mentioned. For certain things I like the timing better on the ASR (never been a fan of timing or sound in logic) so sometimes I disconnect the midi and just track things into logic. if I set the asr to 95 bpm I probably will have to set logic to 95.00763 or something.... Just wanted to know if there was another way around it than using logics or mpc1000 sequencer. DOES THAT MAKE SENCE NOW?

Anyway, appreciate ya'll trying to help out....
