How do I transfer my songs to my computer?

I'm trying to transfer my songs from my mpc1000 to my computer via USB. when I transfer, them it transfers them in some other fromat that my computer doesn't recognize. Please advise me on what to do. Am I suppose to convert the files to WAV? I downloaded AUDACITY but haven't really figured out how to use it. Any help will be appreciated.

cant u resample the whole beat, and send it to your comp as a wav??

Open up a DAW like cubase/logic and record the output of the mpc as you trigger it with midi.

if you don't have one i think there's a free audio editor(dunno what it's called) you can output the audio into the computer, then record it as you play the mpc sequence.

What the MPC has saved is the samples and sequences that make it up the song. There is no single saved "song" ready to use in audio format on the MPC. A PC or Mac won't read MPC Song files directly, and even if it did, it does not include the samples, they are individual WAV files.

Is the song complete? Then getting it into one neat WAV file is the mixdown process:
- if you have enough memory space, you can re-sample your piece on the MPC1000 itself (as JStruMENTAL said) (In Record mode, set input="main outs", time=songlength, then record. ) . This only works if your complete song is in the MPC (some of us use external synths and FX too).
- but if you don't have the memory, you send the audio out from the MPC, mix in any other synths/effects you use, and record it all on the PC as 2-track.
- The free audio editor we talked about for PC/Mac is Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) . Cubase can do that job too if set up right.
