Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Question one: how do you chop samples on the 2000? can you just lay them across the pads or not?

also: i see a zip drive online, but it says its for the 2000xl, i see some others that say for 2000/xl. do they both take the same scsi cord and if i buy the one that says for the xl wil it most likely work on my 2000 also? thanks alot for the input.

pretty sure its the same exact cord and same drive.


choppin on the xl?
theres no zone feature, so we gotta do it manually.
make multiple copies of the long sample you gonna chop up.
on each copy, get your start and end points placed for the chop. Cut it, then name it.
Make each copy play only the chop that you want.
then you have to apply those chops to pads.

thanks for the help dstruction....

so basically.......say you wanna chop the sample into 5 parts. you make 5 copies of the sample. for the first one, you chop it. on the second one you remmeber where u ended the first, so you start the second at the end of the first and end where you want to, and so on for the rest of the sample? is that what your basically saying?

i think its a different cord. the 2000 has a 25 pin connector (for sure), but (as far as I know) the xl has a 50 pin connector.

there are cables that run one to the other, but you should avoind 25 pin scsi unless you absolutely have to, as it is a whack standard.

and if the ebay auction mentions an mpc you can bet they are jacking the price alot. you just need any plain old scsi 100 or 250 meg zip drive.

So you are saying avoid a 25 pin connection that has 25 live wires and instead use a 50 pin connector that has 25 live wires? I am not sure if I follow your reasoning.

I have ripped those micro DB50 connectors out of equipment and replace them with a 25 pin D-sub since the DB50 cables cost three times as much as the 25-pin cables (given that the hardware allows such a mod).

yeah man you got it. I usually dont chop continuosly like that. I dont start my second copy where the first one ended always. I just listen, view the soundwave and chop accordingly. You catchin my drift i can tell. any other questions yo? i got the 2000 (non xl) ill help you out yo

i havent had a problem with the connectors on my 2k, but apparently the ninth commandment of scsi is:

"IX. Thou shalt not worship false connectors. A special place in SCSI Hell is reserved for designers using 25 pin connectors on SCSI devices!

and there was tons of stuff out there about how teribble they are when i was out looking around for a zip drive. it seems like they arent grounded well and/or they try to cram too much together, and its more likely to err, fail, or blow a fuse.

but mine hasnt failed me yet so i can't say i speak from experience, and you seem to have more knowledge than i on this matter..
