MPC 4000 sound better than newer MPCs?

I was interested in getting a MPC 4000. I had the 2500 and I really didnt like the sound of it at all. No bottom end. Does anybody have a 4000 and a 2500\5000\1000? Could you tell me if the 4000 has a better sound than these machines?

Does it have a similar sound to the 2000xl or 3000 at all?

96 kHz 24bit sampling
16 MB sampling memory, upgradeable to 512 MB


the 4000 has more hifi specs than the 2500, 1,000 or 5,000

THE 1000 Or the unit I have has plenty low end, was messin with a 2500 today sounded alright to me, though i think actually prefer the 1000 pads or just use the them

sounds like you are wanting a more vintage phat sound which is gonna be your older models, the 4000 will prob have most "digital" sound of em all, which is cool in some situations, and not in others.

The high end converters alone yield a more detailed sound compared to any of the other mpc units IMO.

I invested in a 4k to compliment the differences in sound that I probably couldn't get with the other samplers I have (ASR10, Kurzweil k2500, and Triton).

Right now I have the 3000 and 5000 not really liking the sound of the 5000 at all.. Looking for a 4k so I can have drums stored in it so I don't have to go thru the computer to store my drums... Tryin to sell 5k and cop the 4k...

Plus I forgot to mention that as far as organizing samples, you have the opportunity to use AK.SYS with the 4k to better arrange your samples from the convinence of your daw.

In other words, you can get a visual of what you're doing without ever laying a hand on the mpc itself.

how much are you asking for 5000?

Even with the incomplete and buggy os the 4k sounds a lot better than any of the newer mpcs, bar the older 60 and 3k.

Also, bear in mind that you will have a hard time for hardware support for the 4k.

how much are you asking for 5000?

$1500 or a straight up trade for a 4000..

Wise decision. I would get the 4k over the 5k any day.

yeah... This guy wants to trade but he says one of the sliders are stuck but he will throw in some extra cash.. Im not really feelin that trade i dont think...

had couple 4k's couple 1000's and 2500. outta them all 4k all day. slider switch is only $15 by the way.

but you loose on straight up trade unless his 4k is in pristine condition and expanded with every option possible

what do you define by digital, all mpcs are digital arent they ? 4000 wont dull down the sound like newer generation mpcs do.

sound coming out of the 4000 has more depth than any other mpc...keep in mind you can always run sample thru different gear to get different sound. s950 are dirt cheap for example

That's why I always boost the low and cut some highs when I sample into the mpc2500.
