again a proof of the ultra poor implementation of MPC...sequencer and sampler sooo integrated that it can not even deliver the most basic things this machine is supposed to : to play it's samples at exactly the moment you program it !

I'm only keeping it because this could be such a powerful machine with a serious OS update, but it's my most expensive gear but the least used of it all ... gathering dust big time.

Same here...Mine's just collecting dust...waiting for an update of some kind...I almost wanna sell it and get a MPC3000...

I have the same problem with my 5000. I cant figure out why it does this and it really pisses me off... did you guys ever figure out a solution. When I layer two or more pads with different kicks the kicks sound like really crappy and off beat every once in awhile!

Nope...No solution yet...I think it's a hardware problem...Not sure if this is a problem that can be fixed with a firmware upgrade...Hope it gets fixed soon...

I tried messing with the release time...and it didn't seem to work...

The best way to test it is to layer 4 different kick samples on 1 pad and then use the NOTE REPEAT to play the pad with FULL LEVEL on...You will hear the sound alternate every few hits...which shouldn't happen...It should play perfectly without changing...

I just found out another weird thing...I tried trigger just one sample...a kick using the NOTE REPEAT key at 1/32 at FULL LEVEL at 120bpm...and I can hear the sound alternate off and on...not consistent...So maybe this problem is more than a sample layering problem...

Does anyone know if this was ever an issue in the previous MPC models?

Tried both of the above on an MPC1000...worked perfectly with no problems at all...WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE MPC5000??? Can everyone reading this try it out on their MPC5000 and post the results? Is this an isolated case with few machines or the entire MPC5000 line? I had one guy so far who PM'd me with the same problem...Let's get down to the bottom of this once and for all!

JUST TRIED IT WITH THE 5K AND 4K.GUESS WHAT?5K IS BADLY MISSING THE BEAT! THE 4K IS VERY SOLID.AKAI REALLY SHOULD COME CLEAN ABOUT THIS.SAME STORY AS THE 1K PADS.GULP.BY THE WAY,ALL THIS TALK ABOUT MPC BECOMING INTEGRATED WITH TH PC IS NOT RELEVANT FOR ME.ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS CREATE ROCK SOLID SEQUENCER SAMPLERS ECT WITH GREAT USER INTERFACES TO HOLD THERE REPUTATION.QUALITY OVER CLEVERNESS AND MASS PRODUCTION.ROGER LINN STYLE!

I tried that too...but it doesn't work. I can always get the sound to come out right for a few hits...but then it will start shifting again after several hits. I believe this might possibly be a fundamental problem with the sound engine design. Hope it's something that can be fixed with a firmware upgrade...Otherwise, this baby is getting dumped...

I just put it on the "Bug" thread...Hopefully, more people will respond so we can pin point the problem and hopefully find a solution soon.

It does sound off if you play it in 32nd notes but I dont know who uses 32nd note kicks at all? Does it really effect your beats that much? It does happen on my machine too but it still sounds fine and doesnt effect the way I make beats...

It's just another test that I did...The original problem with multi-layered samples is a huge problem for me cuz I can hear it go in and out constantly...I use a lot of multi-sampled sounds for my drums so it's absolutely imperative that it works the way it's supposed to...Also, for a machine that costs $1999 it SHOULD just work!
