Hi there, sorry to hear that!
When you boot up the mpc5k, do you hear the HD winding up?
If so, try to access the HD in a computer via mode/disk/USB/mount/ function.
if it pops up there, then it's probably a setup problem for the HD in mpc5k. Overfull HD, missing HD files or odd files can cause that. The last time you saved to the disk probably caused the problem.
Backup your files and format the disk again. scan the disk for broken sectors, then restore your oldest files first to the disk, and see if it still works.

If your disk shows no sign of life, how about warranty?
There's also a good instruction how to change HD, with pictures and all
It's a sticky at the top of mpc5k forum. "want to upgrade your mpc?" or something like that. you'll need an IDE 3,5" HD.
best of luck!

When i restarted the mpc it came back. luckily, i just bought it and didn't have a dope a$$ beat to save. all i loaded was a free drum kit from mpc samples. I have turned it on a lot and saved sequences without any problems since then. Should I still check the hard drive? thanks for the help
