That's compression. Lossy compression. There's two different 'compressions' - audio and data.

Isn't sampling the term for the process of recording an analog source into a digital environment?
So how can you sample an already digital file?



Yes, I know what you've ment. And maybe I'm wrong and its only here in germany were the term was used this way. Yes it WAS used this way. Nowadays many people use the word sampling just as you did in your post.

I meant sampling as in: taking excerpts from an old song and using it to make a new one. Not sure if that's 'correct'.

Having a pysical copy of music

Anticipation and suspense of getting new music you have never heard of before and going home to find out you scored big

Having a better appreciation of all types of music

I've been doing this for many many yrs and this feeling is the next to fiening for a record, i literally get the shakes or sweats till i find it then when you find it it'slike hitting the lotto the only person with that one record.

yeah i still do but then it yes it gets compressed when i upload to my comp, but even when i record to digital i use wav less compression yeah i use tapes and reel to reel at times ,I'm a dj by nature so i buy records still, and i still spin vinyl only

If u want to make a few serious sample based beats u have to dig to find that sample.
Doesn't matter if ur sampling mp3's or records.

A lot of people prefer vinyl for multiple reasons as noted in the posts above.
It's not about convenience. It's about the vibe of expression. The quality of the end result. The goal overrules the means.

yes i know what LOSSY means..it means YOU LOST 80% seriously look it up..its not "actually" compressed like zip files or somthin it just has alot of information MISSING..

Do you have a track listing for the Evil Russian Breaks? I've been sampling a lot of Soviet era records. I think it's unlikely that someone could sue you for IP rights as they were produced under communism. It's hard to believe some of the funky sht that was made behind the Iron Curtain. Seems like you coulda got sent to Siberia for being that funky lol.

Haha I got at least 120 Russian Records. All of them were pressed under the Soviet Union, under one label, Melodia or something. Some of them are american bands pressed under that label.

TRY THIS WITHOUT HEADPHONES ON YOUR AMP
listen to record then listen to the same album in mp3you'll hear the loss and feel of the music. vinyl is thick bassy warm sounds better,the mp3 has a thin almost far away feel to it bass doesnt hit as hard... i like the frequency i have in my tapes...just sounds much better to me, i aint after clearity and sharpness that mp3 have ,i go for feel and warmth and much better sound,
but i wouldnt expect someone that grew up in a digital world to understand it,it's all they have heard and know...i embrace technology to a certain point. was never into CD's i prolly own 100 at the most but they never get listen to like my vinyl does.

Why go to the club, or the movies? You could get tore up at home, chill with your girl, and watch television. It's just more enjoyable to many people to be apart an involved in the whole experience of digging in the crates. I suggest if you use "IDIGG" samples to create your music that you try digging crates to find out why digging is preffered by many.
