Cool, I've always wanted to try a VP-9000. Rohan has a Vsynth XT and told me how good the stretch sounds. I've never even done much stretching because I generally don't like what it does to the audio. I have to just chop stuff up really small and fit it back together. Sometimes I just have to give up doing it a certain way cause the timing is so off, I'd never get it to fit. Always frustrating when you've put a lot of work into a beat.

How does the VP sound without stretching? What kind of efx and modulation do you have and how do they sound? Thanks for the feedback, I've always wondered.

because of the old OS?

otherwise i dont get it, because thats what he was talking about

anyway... a SIDE question insetad of posting a new thread for everything

how the Hell do i get halfways OKAY Level with the MPC 60 ???

i thought the ASR 10 was allready very silent and that while having the Input adjustment in the last quarter....
but in the ASR you have the comp effect to add gain (tho thats not really cool since oyu waste an effect Bus only for getting proper Level)
if i record much louder i get too much distortion

but with the MPC 60 now thats really a joke Level.... i need to have my other gear and Monitors turned up quite too much and getting constant hum because of that only to listen to the MPC 60 in what i would call normal Level

any hints?

please....

i did right now what was suggested and sampled a drum loop into the ASR 10, chopped up there, and Resampled into the mpc 60

wasnt too much of a pain really... much nicer than trying to chop in the mpc  (1k aswell....)
so i guess that ll be my method

ASR is soooo fast, so happy i went that route

OH and btw BIG LOVE for the MPC 60 Pads..... its like i had to HAMMER te 1k pads while these are ultra smooth and response

Yeah, you're screwed, I just downloaded the OG 60 manual so that I could give you some more accurate help and I realized you can't even copy a sound. That hurts! I've been on 3.10 so long I forgot and couldn't even imagine that it worked like that.

The 60 definitely doesn't have as hot of a signal as the ASR. There is no way to "boost" or normalize in the 60, what you sample is what you get. Get your samples in as hot as possible without distorting them, then use the mixer to get a nice balance between sounds. That's about all you can do. A nice 10+ input mixer with the 60 is a big help.

Also, I hardly call trying to figure out the machine for a day a "rocky road". It takes time to master these machines, especially when you're used to all the modern conveniences. When you get the 60 working right, it'll be worth the effort.

hehe yeah i foudn it out inbetween aswell.... now i am sold on 3.10

allready got a deal pending.

about the rocky road... you r right, actually i really enjoy working with the 60, i am faster than on the 1k jjos.. go figure

but actually this mashine makes me UNDERSTAND the mpc and the sequencer characteristics.

i dont really mind dealing with the floppys but the sapace limit is somewhat anoying... but if i keep it Drums only i should be fine

but, does anyone know if there is a "clean internal memory" function? i do i have to re-power everytime? cause that floppy and RAM managing is somewhat a back and for (at least for me so far)

anyway, enjoying this mashine a lot and it makes me use it in a creative way

Also if you choose you can use the old school technique, speed up samples and then sample
them into the 60 to manage sample space.

I think the extra ram and scsi are huge in getting the most out of the 60. As an sp1200 user, I know you can do a lot with a little so I won't say its a must. There is no way to clear all memory with one button push. You can delete all sounds, and initialize all sequences though.

how?

as far as i know it has MAX memory.... sampletime is max 5 sec. and memory seems to be around 1-1,5 i think

well SCSI would be great to have a drive or CF reader, but i wont cop THAT kind of $ for it.... nope

yes, i am doing the speed up pitch down thing allready.... also cutoff ends but getting very fast to the limit when theres some actual melody sample involved

jus messing around anyway for now... getting used, waiting for ASR Scsi cable to get going

hmmmmm checked again.... my Memory is 1 mb

shouldnt it be 1,5 as maxed ?

Man, you're killing me, you got me all up in the OG manual=) I gotta say OS 2.00 is so much more brutal then I remember, how did I ever use this thing!

Once again I have no clue what I'm talking about. You can't delete all sounds or sequences in 2.00. I think I'll just shut up now...

You gotta remember, things aren't missing, it was made the way it is, you are used to certain other features from newer mpc's, now you take a huge step back and things aren't exactly like what you'd expect. Nothing is missing in the mpc60. 8)
