When i load up the drum rack and i use my mpd to trigger a sample, How do i get the sample to play until its finished , as opposed to having to hold it for the length of the sample. Do i have to go thru every pad and turn the release up , or is there another option ? Up until now i have just been toyin with ableton, but i really want to get more acquainted with it. Thanx in advance !

Turn the release all the way up on one sample. Then right click on the release knob and choose 'copy setting to siblings' (it might be called something else - I'm not in front of live right now). You can do this for ever knob and setting. Basically what I do is set up one sample just like I want it and then copy all the settings to the other samples.

Also you could alternatively use the macro knobs. In the default rack, release should be mapped to macro knob 4. If it's not you can set all the samples' release to a knob. Check the manual on setting up macro knobs.

Its good practice to always use a pre-roll when syncing up sequencers, a couple of bars should be enough.

On your mpc, set your TRACK setting from DRUM to MIDI and set your MIDI output from NONE to, e.g. 1A.

I saved a .PGM file where every track uses a different midi channel so i can send 16 (32, if you use your second midi out) channels of midi data.

In Ableton Live, click on the small black button labeled "I.O"
Its next to the Master output fader on the right side.
Now your Input and Output routings appear.

Now, create some midi channels in Live (CTRL+SHIFT+T).
There are four knobs:

MIDI FROM: select the midi interface where you plugged your MPC in.

CHANNEL: select your Desired channel, Either All or 1 to 16

MONITOR:
IN: will playback all the time
AUTO: will playback only if the channel is set to record
OFF: no playback at all

Set your channels correct and then, the mpc will use live as one big rack.
you can push your pads and have the mpc feel and groove, but you will be able to mix down and process nicely in live using plugins & stuff.

hey man I ran into a problem here, hope you could help.
I did tingz exactly this way, sync works, but I can't get my pads to trigger ANYTHING!!!
doesn't matter is the sync on/off, doesn't matter if it's track/remote, the pads don't work, neither for loop triggering nor for the instruments.

running latest MacOS 10.5.8 /w Ableton 8 Suite and MPC1000 with the latest akai os, using Mbox2 midi 1 input and midi out A from MPC.
I even disconnected my usb midi keyboard, MPC pads still don't work.

would appreciate any feedback.

Ihave a problem manually mapping the knobs and sliders of my midi keyboard to ableton live 7. I have the blue Oxygen 49. The keys play the notes fine, but i cant seem to be able to map the knobs and sliders. I have the Oxygen 49 set up in the preferences, and if i am on preset 10 on the keyboard the 9 sliders control volumes of tracks. But I cant seem to be able to manually map anything. Ableton recognizes the midi input from the knobs but i cant assign them to any parameters. A few knobs are assigned to weird things, but i want to reassign them all myself.
Help is much appreciated!!

just got on the Ableton bandwagon.....copped Live 8, and a Novation Launchpad and Nocturn 49 to control it. Looks like it's going to take some getting used to coming from my linear, pattern-based MPC background, but I'm up for the challenge.

I'm having this EXACT problem with my AKAI MPK25 right now. I'm totally new to this stuff, but even after following the tutorials in Ableton, I'm still not able to get this to work. I tried to assign the fade to a dial - no luck.

You have to go into ableton prefrences. look in the midi tab and make sure that 'SYNC" is turned ON and selected to your desired controller.

i was having the same trouble assigning the transport and volume controls to the buttons on my axiom 49, but then i realized i had to turn on sync.
