True... I can explain better via phone... so pm me a number and Ill try to work it thru with you.

the theory I use is.... MAKE BEATS VIA GEAR.

when you need to track out what youve made, then, involve your daw.

you can still use a different MPC out to control virtual synths etc ON your DAW.

so effectively, your MPC IS the master, it just slaves via time code to your DAW for tracking.

@LAMP.

it was a cheap jab, no doubt, but, True nonetheless.

i am in EU man... dunno if you wanna make that call... if still cool i can PM you lemme know

actually... here is where my method differs from most.... i am not planing tracking the stuff out seperatly into my DAW etc

i am using a 24 ch. Summing Mixer in a 2he 19" box it has mute switches for each channel and Parallel compression inserts and all kinds of candys....i really dont see the need for me to mess up my sound with plugins.... and i am too lazy to track everything into logic etc

so i am feeding the mixer directly from the gear together with up to 8 channels from the DAW (like some rhodes or B3 etc)

I'm not offended at all, lmao.

I was actually laughing while I read it.

I've had my asr10 and 2kxl midi'd several times in the past, successfully
so I'm not worried about anyone thinking I don't have a clue, lol, I'm really not.

You guys are funny though and enough people are helping ion out anyways.

@ ion, everyone in the thread has given you great advice, don't sleep.

oh well......

i ve read the whole Sync chapter in the manual.... doesnt really help as the Mode gotta be OFF in all other cases it recives external sync....

once again... here is what i ve set up

ASR:
8 loaded tracks...
on EDIT TRACK each Track`Multi Midi IN ch. is set to its number
on EDIT INS. all midi out and programm are set to 1
Mode set to Multi
base ch. and transmit on ch 1
in SEQ Mode TEMP shows: EXTERN !!!

on MPC 60
SYNC Screen - Sync Mode is OFF (all others are for reciving not sending sync)
Midi OUT 1A

everywhere were i could selct a Midi in out or one of the 16 ch. i selected IN 1 / OUT 1 / OUT 1A

on Main screen one Track is loaded... has ch. 1A "Drums"

hitting rec+play starts the click and sequence recording,....... playing any keys on any of the 8 ASR tracks does NOT record any midi event into the MPC as replaying the recorded sequence stays silent...

sorry Lamp but i DID and double to tripple- check everything that has been said here

Ah, I see what might be wrong. Toggle through your options on the MPC, rather see if you can't change 1A "Drums" to another option...ie: "Programs" or "External" or something. But keep 1A selected.

Just an idea...and I think it's something I've run into in the past.

i can only change that 1A Drums to 2A-16A "Synth" the 2nd part is just the naming and the number obviously the 1-16 channels of the MIDI Out 1

tried all that of course..... tried with 2A and ASR TRACK 2 (aswell as with all other tracks randomly like a mad man)

no sucsess

you dont have to do this : in SEQ Mode TEMP shows: EXTERN !!!

because you are not using the ASR sequencer.

so you have the ASR right. besides that...

.....................

If you change drum to midi on your MP for the track... can you hear your buttons playing the ASR?

if not, check all wires to make sure they arent reversed. im sure they are not.

NEXT.

make sure you try to toggle all midi settings.... as My60 is in a different studio, I cannot remember exactly what your options are... try turning soft thru back on?

the goal is to make your buttons trigger your ASR first.

once you make your buttons make the asr sounds play, then your are on to something.

EDIT SYSMIDI looks like this>>>>>
midi controllers on, multi controllers off, midi song select on, midi program change on, midi SYS-ex off,

this is not rocket science, play with it. get your track to send data to MIDI 1 out, the channels (1-8) on midi cable 1 will play your instruments (1-8) since they are already set up right. **** check your midi setting on your ASR... it cant be just on local, it has to be on BOTH. (so it not only controls the sound form your physical keys on the ASR, but accepts incoming midi notes to play the sounds as well.

SO..... EDIT INST looks like this...

midi status=both, patch select mode= live, pressure mode, (key or channel) midi out prog 1 midi out chan1,

SECONDLY

If you still are not getting sound, set your midi out cable to input to a MIDI track on logic, just to make sure that the data is being sent... it could be a Physical Port issue on your MPC, I've heard of that before, if so, swithc out ports.

good luck.

Lamp... your a good sport.

just to be clear... you are not "slaving" your ASR to your MPC...

that implies that you are controlling sequences and time code...

YOU ARE using the ASR as a sound module. so all that needs to happen once the ASR is set to BOTH (as above) it will receive incoming data...

I think your issue (unless Both was set to local) is getting the mp into MIDI track mode instead of Drum Track mode. 1A-channel 1--- to---- 1A channel 8 is all we are dealing with.

thanks

well... getting the ASR sounds to be played with the MPC Pads hasnt been an issue from beginning... it simply depends on how i set the "assign outgoing drums to notes" screen in the MPC Midi screens....
since its not my goal to trigger ASR sounds from the Pads i ve set it to "NONE" the other options are "DRUM NOTES" and "NOTES/MIX/TUNE"

having it set to any of the other 2 options, of course lets me record a sequence on the MPC with ASR sounds... but that is not what i am trying to do here!?
as the MPC Sequencer only records sth when i play it on the Pads but not on the keys

well, i had these 2 set to OFF until now " midi song select on, midi program change on "

set to on now, all other SYSMIDI and INSTR. settings are asyou described

now that changed, and the above mentioned "assign outgoing drums" aswell as SOFT THRU ON

that all seems to change nothing...

i must be mad...

so Step one... DONE

we have midi data being transmitted.

so you want to make your keys trigger drums?

WTF maybe Im missing the whole goal...?? maybe I'm mad
User avatar

no but of course i want to record a sequence, that i play on the ASR keys with ASR sounds into the MPC Sequencer
so that it fits exactly the timimng of the drums(played and sequenced in the MPC)
and in order to mess with the recorded ASR sequence
no?

 :?

I thought he was not getting any midi at all.
ION, You was able to trigger the ASR the whole time?

YOU SAID:

i get what you are saying here but i had the understanding that i can use the MPC 60 as my absolute Master Sequencer, not slaved to LOGIC.... i dont know about the 2kXL Seuencer timimng, i its that unique... but man i want to keep the MPC 60 timimng 100% over Logic`s Clock!!!
thats the reason i got a 60 and not ANY MPC

This is what we are going for, no?

the misunderstanding is because you are actually (as you always have learned to do, or as is only possible without an MP in the equation).... sequencing on the ASR, and you want those sequences to play (that are recorded in the ASR's internal memory) to play in time with the MPC stuff you built.

IM SAYING....

you have to ditch the sequencer entirely that is ONBOARD/INSIDE the ASR completely, and instead, use the MPC for what it was designed for... Midi Production Center

By using the MPC to TRACK the notes you play on the keyboard of your ASR, into the MPC's internal memory (recorded as midi tracks)... then PLAY BACK the notes through the midi cable, thusly, playing your sounds on your ASR..

.........................

IF you are only trying to slave your asr to play with the beat, then I suggest you using a common TIME CODE SOURCE, such as your DAW (logic in your case)

that way, both machines would FOLLOW your computer interface's midi clock, and making them play at the same speed.

aaaaaargh

are you kidding me Ceo... i said so allready in the other thread

at least i was clever enough to find out how to stop the mpc triggering the ASR permanently

but how does this help when i want to record ASR playing and not triggering the ASR with Pads???
