hi there, im quite new to this forum so just to say hi and i hope that i dont get shot down with plenty abuse for this opening question ;) basically i recently acquired an MPC1000 with all the upgrades and JJOS but i have not a massive amount of use for it other than to use it as a controller, but im a little confused as to if its possible to use the MPC1k pads purely for this purpose?
ok if that made no sense il try again, i run ableton and iv got a microkorg that i just plug a MIDI cable in to and then in to my soundcard and when i press the keys it registers in ableton and will play whatever the VST synth is selected. but with the mpc it doesn’t seem to work like this, when i hit the pads no MIDI signal is sent and iv read the manual and there’s very little help for this as its clearly not what the MPC was intended for.

im going a little mad and trying to work out whether its a fault or its broke or its just me being stupid.....

any help would be great, cheers guys

go ahead and make/save a program on your mpc 1000 in an autoload folder, in this program assign the pads in each bank to trigger the midi notes ( like match up with the drum racks midi notes) (if live 7 or 8)

make sure you have the correct midi out/ in selected in the device you wish to control in ableton

you will also be able to use the mpc transport controls and sequencer to record/playback the midi sequences in your drum racks, simpler, sampler, impulse which will be like having an mpc with as much ram as your computer and as much sampling time as your live set can handle.

read the mpc 1000 manual to learn how to setup the midi/in out and follow the midi set up tutorials built in to ableton and you will be set

I run my midi cable out of the mpc 1000 into this midisport 2x2 then that connect to the computer via usb
select the device to recieve from )midi sport) and it works like a charm (sub midi sport with your midi interface )

ok, i think the problem is a little deeper, i have live 7 and im running an M-Audio Fast Track Pro (USB) and the probblem is i cant seem to get the MPC to send a midi signal. EXAMPLE, i have the MIDI cable from the MIDI in of the M-Audio and plug it in to my MicroKorg and as soon as i press a note the "MIDI in" LED on the M-Audio flashs and regesters the note in ableton (top right hand corner, MIDI track indicator) but then i switch the MIDI cable over to the MPC and tap on the pads and there is nothing. on the other hand it is compleatly willing to work in abletons external sync mode, so that the play stop and bpm can be controled from the MPC so there is some comunication there (when playing the M-Audios "MIDI in" LED lights up) but the sign of the note data.
could it be somthing to do with the MIDI setings in the MPC, i purchased it of some one elce who had even less idea how to use it! i have also read all the manual sections on this and the only part that seems relevent is the section on seting the MPC as a master MIDI clock with and external MIDI device which i have done and does work...

hope this makes some kind of sense, as id realy like to get it working like you said it could, sounds like it can work as an amasing controler for live

thanks

Its in the manual my dude.

On the MAIN screen there is a parameter called 'MIDI' in the lower right hand corner. Set it to something other than 'OFF'. You can have the MPC control up to 32 different instruments in Ableton (by using 32 different tracks and setting each one to a different MIDI channel/port).

If you have OS2XL (and I believe OS2 also, but I'm not sure), you can also set the Q-Links up to send different MIDI CCs on each of those 32 tracks (two per track).
