Whats happenin peoples,

I recently moved from the states to australia, and left all my gear home. Since i got here i managed to get a 2500 and an S950, now...at home i used to have my 950 hooked up with my mpc 60, one midi cable use to connect the two, and the were in beautiful harmony together!

Now im using a 2500, with an s950 and shit is straight up wack for me. I just need more time to figure it out i guess,

The question is....has anybody here successfly using a 950 with a 2500, where they record the sample into the 950 and use the 2500 to trigger it?? I think where im going wrong is in the setting on the 2500??

I read the manual, but im use to dinosaur samplers, the 2500 seems pretty full on, any help would be appreciated brothers.

Thanks.

I have that combo without any problems.
2500 midi out to s950's midi in.
Midi channel on channel 1 in both machines.
Check the midi/sync menu. Go to note and put them in chromatic order.
These are the basic problems I can think off.

Maybe u can give us a more detailed description on how u hooked up those machines.

I've heard of this setup with the s950 and a 2000/60, etc but what's the advantage with a 2500? Just looking for that 12bit crunch?

^^^^ Yes Sir!! I run this combo as well.

Any samples that need some dirt, I run through the s950 then resample back into the 2500.

oh man. i used to have an s900 i bought on craigslist for $70, sold it for $90 when i needed cash... i had a 2500 at the time when i used it but i would just sample in to the s900 and sample that in to the 2500. no midi cables or anything. it was a no fuss way to do it. those things are GREAT for running samples in to, oo weee. love their sound.

For grittyness, get a alesis bitrman! Its' faster than resampling.

A 2500 is more advanced. Better storage facilities, bigger screen. Plus parts for the 2500 are easier to get by.

I see it like this: I have an all in one box. I can chop samples with it quikly and I don't need other equipment to sample in or edit samples with.
And when I need that 12bit dirt I can always fire up the s950.

or an alesis ineko for even cheaper... has a very similar decimator effect [as well as 49 other effects] at a portion of the cost of what a bitrman sells for on ebay.

Hi! I am new with S950 so can you give me advices? I have 2000xl and S950, so how I resample my drums or samples from 2000xl to S950 and back to my MPC step by step? I have the midi connection between them already. Thank ya so much!

That's like saying "if you can't get a sp1200 get a sp303!" It's not the same. If you've ever used an sp1200 you would know that. Just like if you've ever used an akai s series sampler you know it's distinct sound (esp. the lowpass on the 900 and 950 *drool)

Im confused, why do you guys resample back into your 2500 or 2000XL? You kinda defeating the whole purpose of the S900/S950, buy bringing it back into the 16 bit MPC. To keep the grit and for it to bump like it should, you should just hook it up via MIDI, and run audio outs from your S950 to you mixer. Much better results that way & you'll be getting the right sound.

If your gonna resample back into your MPC why not just sample some ol hip hop records that was made on a 950? Because essentially thats what your doing by re-sampling.

You get the 950 (or in my case EMAX) sound plus the benefits of the MPC. You don't magically make the sample cleaner again by sampling it back into the MPC...

Best of both worlds. The trick is to filter, pitch and envelope the sample in the 950 before you sample it back into the MPC. Or if you prefer, you can MIDI up the 950, sequence it from the MPC, and then record each individual track (instead of each individual sample) back into the MPC. Either way, you really should use both MIDI and audio connections between the 950 and the MPC.

Of coarse it doesn't automatically get clean again, but you loose that signature "bump" People who have used the S950/S900 have to understand that. Its not same if you sample it back into your MPC (esp a modern one). To me, its easier to just hook them up via MIDI. An get busy. Thats having the best of both worlds, and its simpler too. I almost think its a waste of a s950 by not using its real audio outs.
