I was on tweakheadz and a typical mpc rig diagram showed that the mpc was connected to a dj mixer, which had a mic with a preamp, and a turn table and a cd player connected to it. then to the mpc was also connected a keyboard controller and studio monitors. my questoin is... how come there is no sound card anywhere in there? is it in the mpc? yes im a complete noob.

soundcards are for computers

MPC has audio out and in's
it's like a tape deck, you can play things and record things

but how can you call yourself 'MPC1000user' if you don't know basic things like this ?

Yes, it is the audi inputs/outputs on the rear panel of the machine and internally the analog to digital converters going in, and the digital to analog converters going out.

The mpc 1000 is run by it's own little computer and operating system which then

has a built in midi sequencer and midi pad controller (16 pads) The mpc 1000 also has Audio inputs/outputs that bring audio into the unit to be recorded and out of the unit to be heard on a sound system or recorded into a new device.

Think of your mpc 1000 as a midi controller/interface with a built in soundcard (audio in/outA/D converters) run by a little computer that's only function is music recording/ midi sequencing instead of web browsing, word processing, video, etc etc.

so in a sense your mpc 1000 does have a soundcard bringing the audio in and out, though the mpc's soundcard is of a higher quality than the ones built into a dell laptop yet the computer in the mpc is not as powerful, simply because it is only used for the one (music) purpose.
