MPC freezes every time i try to use Q-FX

So i'm in sample mode, in the trim/lp section of course, and i go to hit Q-FX and the mpc freezes. Every single time. This is my second MPC that i just got on ebay after my old one died. I have been using it barely a week so nothing ive done has caused it.

Anyone heard of anything like this happening?

I've been using the 4k for about 2 years now and never had a messed up bug like this on any other unit.

edit: also freezes when you try to add effects in program/effects mode. . .

I'm guessing its an issue with the ram... how much memory does the 4k have?

512 MB memory,
no altercations have been made to the unit.

i think im just going to dispute the payment cos im in australia and finding an MPC4k for sale locally is damn near impossible so finding someone to fix a hardware issue is not gonna happen. . . Unless this is an easy thing to fix and can be done without a soldering iron.
I love my mpc but for fks sake we have to put up with the worst problems. My old mpc basically died when i tried to use it with ak.sys

A few things to try, reload the OS. The OS can get corrupted sometimes.

As posted already, could be the RAM. try removing the RAM and use only the onboard 16MB.

Are you using the same multi/program/Samples every time this happens? Might be a corrupt file.

Are you loading samples from an internal HDD? Could be a compatibility issue with the MPC and HDD. Disconnect the HDD.

Tried reloading, same problem

tried removing ram, same prob

every time it's a different sample, i tried.

Ok, so we eliminated the basics.

Now we need to eliminate the next possible problem. The Qlink Knobs/sliders.

Turn on the MPC, DO NOT LOAD ANYTHING!!!! next, move each Qlink one at a time. Does the MPC crash?

Next thing, try the test mode. Press GLOBAL, once in the Global page press SHIFT and GLOBAL. That should take you to a test screen. Check to see if all the Qlinks are moving correctly.

yea i've used the qlink knobs and sliders fine, it's just the effects mode.

is it possible i was sold an mpc without an efx card and thats why it's not working?

go into global then press config...you can see what boards are installed (or at least, working).....i guess you know already whether its installed or not...but it may well be why it crashes if its not installed....

individual output board: installed

S/P DIF board: installed

Multi effects board: installed

adat interface board: not installed.

does that mean anything? i know nothing about this side of the mpc

Do you still have the other MPC that you said is dead? Because it seems like you have problem with your effects board. You could swap the effects board.

Na i sold the busted unit to a dude i know (for parts).

But yea basically i'm just gonna get the guy i bought it from to replace or reimburse.

Sold as "100% functional". right. thats what you get for dealing with wacked out ebay goons just trying to make a dollar.
