Hooking up mpc2000xl to protools or any DAW

First post. Been reading for awhile and understand you guys are all about "checking the manual" I've read it front to back a few times. Mainly looking for some suggestions here.


I bought this machine used. Pretty good condition. I've mainly been messing around with it and not finishing beats. Bought the CF reader all that good stuff. Anyways I'm just now getting around to wanting to take a beat off it and bring it to my pc. I have a mbox pro 2 mini. Trying to figure out the best way to do this. I also have Sound forge DAW and couldnt figure out how to run my RCA cables to my pc to pull the beat off. I thnk it might be a problem with the softwarer because its a download version. What do you guys use for this?

Should have posted this in the 'Getting Started' forum, but I got you this time.

First you need to decide whether you want to use the Pro Tools software that came with your Mbox or Soundforge to record the beats from your MPC. Depends whether your beats are finished or need more work of any description.

Pro Tools LE is classed as a DAW whereas Soundforge is simply an Audio Editor, both have a place in your studio.

Is your Mbox/ Pro Tools LE set up correctly and working?

And how many audio outputs do you have on your 2000XL?

I record with protools LE so i use it quite a bit. It runs fine

I use soundforge to chop samples before running them into the mpc. Just more familiar with it.

I have 8 outputs

Well just connect the main outputs of your MPC to a pair of Line Inputs on the Mbox interface.

You can then just record the beat straight into Pro Tools LE on a stereo audio track.

I would imagine that you could also use the Mbox to record into Soundforge if you chose to do that instead.

Doesn't seem to be working. I thought i might have not been able to do it that way because it didn't work. But atleast now i know you can do it that way. I'll keep trouble shooting. thanks

strike that. I'm an idiot.

I have one set of outs and 8 in's.

Its working but i have it selected as recording in stero and its only recording into mono (one side) I guess that will still be ok.

I just played the recording back and its filled with static. Any ideas? I can make out that the beat is in there, but static is over powering it.

I had the input 2 nob all the way up. That with the mpc main volume up pretty high will do it hahahhaa.

Yea, I recorded it into pro tools and everything worked fine. After my finances recover from the Xmas season I plan on going midi. So i'm sure i'll be back asking recommended set ups for that.
