I like working w/sequencers (hardware and software) like the MPC and Logic to create a few tracks. In my studio, I sometimes create a few tracks of MIDI within the MPC, and then track out into Logic as audio. Then I add additional parts within Logic, route effects, etc. But, at the end of the writing process, it's all in Logic (MIDI and bounced Audio) and I am left wondering, "OK, now how am I going to actually perform all this sequenced material live as a solo act?"
I don't like the idea of a laptop on stage, because, for the most part, I don't want the audience to assume that I am just pressing play, so Ableton Live or Main stage are not really options I want to explore right now. I want to use a dedicated external hardware sequencer to trigger multi-timbral sound modules so that my song may be re-created or "remixed," so to speak, right before the audience's eyes. The music now inhabits a multi-timbral digital workstation (Logic), so, to create the effect I am going for, it must be transferred to another multi-timbral digital workstation e.g. MPC4000, Roland MV, etc.
Here's how I'd like to do it:
I want to send the tracks (MIDI and audio) from Logic to a multi-timbrel sampler, such as an MPC4000, or, preferably, an MPC1000 w/JJ OS2XL, to be triggered at the moment I deem appropriate for the sonic experience. This way, I can play back my songs as they were produced in Logic, OR enhance the experience of my live performance by introducing improvised arrangements of all song data (sequenced material and audio data) on the fly through the use of "Track Mute" in the MPC1000 w/JJ OS2XL or MPC4K--->(if I must).
I heard that this is possible within the MPC4000, because like the Z-8 series, the 4000 is multi-timbral, but is it possible on the MPC1000 w/JJ OS2XL? I am not sure if the MPC1K w/JJ OS2XL is multi-timbral or not? Please elucidate my confusion on this.
Can anyone out there with enough experience point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.
