How to start making beats (equipment questions - mpc 1000)

Hello,

I just bought an mpc 1000 and im a complete noobie in the business. I watch videos and guys have all this other equipment so here is my question. Having a mac laptop and mpc 1000, do i need these things called mixers and what do they do actually? im also looking to buy studio monitors cause ive seen that others have these. My question basically is what equipment is cruicial and if it isnt cruicial could you please just give a brief description of the use for this equipment ( the mixers, teh studio monitors, and any other typical equipment that gets hooked up with the mpc 1000)

everyone's equipment is different, it depends what you're doing. are you wanting to sample from vinyl?

not quite, well im not sure but i dont have a turntable so that might come later on, for now no. what should i buy?

Speakers or monitors are a pre of course. If u can afford go get some monitors. It's not a problem if u can't afford them yet. I worked with my hifi speakers for at least a year.

Next to that u'll need a recording device. Digital recorder, computer with daw or maybe a tapedeck.
What kind of recording device depends on how u like to work.

If u want to use anothere sampler or synth in ur setup it's best to get a mixer as well.

If u want to sample vinyl then yes ur going to need a TT with a dj mixer or phono preamp.

So basically: speakers and recording device. What kind of and other type of gear totally depends on how u want to work

Ok so let me make sure i got this right. I need a recording device to store the beats i make, but is a mac laptop enough? what does "daw" mean. also when you said another sampler or synth its best to get a mixer. what does that mean exactly. what does the mixer do? what does a synth do (excuse that im a completeeeeeeeeeeee noob) thats the main thing im confused about, what the mixers do

1000user, go to tweakheadz and soak up as much info as possible, then come back here and post any relevant questions you may have.

That site will educate you to the point that you'll be up to speed to run (or at least walk) with the big dogs around here.

Dont BUY anything just yet. This is how many many many cats rush in just to rush out. First, learn the limitations of the MPC, then learn about what gear would compliment the MPC best. This is going to be different for everyone. As stated above Tweakheadz is a good site because they break down every peice of gear in the signal chain.

1. Learn everything about your mpc...
2. Learn more about mixing and mastering
3. Buy an Turntable with a good needle
4. You will need some studio monitors but simple speaker's (2.1) are for the begining ok

mixers are used for connecting multiple pieces of equipment up together and have all those machines running, usually, through the same set of speakers. some have onboard effects, some dont. me, i have my mpc and keyboard running thru the mixer, both coming out of the same set of speakers.

im using headphones right now as opposed to using monitors. im in a spot where i cant really be blastin my music because of my roommates, so i do all of my stuff thru headphones (M-Audio Q40 Dynamic)

dont buy shit until you figure out EXACTLY what YOU, need. not what some cat on youtube or on here on the forums has got. all we can do is give opinions, its up to you to make the decision and spend YOUR doe on it

yo, thats what ive been doing reading!! and more reading!
this my first post, kinda pisses me off when cats dont even use the forum for what its for.
i've gained a ton of knowledge just from browsing this forum without having to ask a single question and im greatful for it.
