Here is the RIGHT way to use an MPC and ASR together...

here's my suggestion for you.

def get OS 3.10 for your MPC 60


then...

first option

if you want to use Logic and VST's, then just use Logic and VST's. Maybe use your ASR-10 as a MIDI controller for Logic, but that's really just a waste of the ASR-10. Just get a cheap MIDI controller to use with Logic.

second option (and how i would do it)

use your MPC 60 as the master and your ASR-10 as the slave, and that's it. If you want sounds out of Logic, just sample them into the 60 or ASR and be done with it. The 60 and ASR will warm those Logic sounds up, plus you'll be using the 60 sequencer, which is incredible.

keep it simple. keep it simple. keep it simple. (words to live by)


make beats just using Loigic, then make beats using just the 60 and ASR. see which ones you like better. i can already tell which ones will sound better.


these days i find myself using just my MPC 60. Only 26 secs of sample time... and i've never felt more free and creative.

Less is def more.

2) while i like the idea, it is not suitable for my set, as i play some clav,rhodes stuff etc in there and also playing and recording vibes...

imagine the work getting your live recording to play in the right timing to the rest.

but damn, can none think of a solution / cause that i get only short attacks when i record a sequence of either the SE1 or a Logic VSTi ?

what the hell could that be?

i thought i had it and pulled the MPC IN2 to LOGIC MIDI OUT Usb-Midi plug and left only the MPC OUT to LOGIC IN but that did not do anything either

maybe something with Velocity settings? as Logic aswell as the SE1 seem to think they get only some stacatto like playing notes

I see what you saying. Your notes aren't playing to the proper Duration/ length that they were recorded? I'll hook my 60 up to logic and check it out later.

Check note Duration in the Step Edit Screen and see if you can change.
4.4.1 The STEP EDIT screen (pg. 101)

I really think 3:10 will solve your problems, much better midi capabilities.

yep... but SE1 aswell... so i am sure its the MPC, i ll check the duration / step edit... sounds promising

The sticcato sounds are most likely the result of the mp not recording the proper duration. the reason for this may be the physical data needed to be transported thru the cables is not working up to speed.


Do this.... Record one note in a single sequence... hold it for 3 bars, and release for the 4th... did it still only play a part of the note?

okay, i think it really must have sth to do with the Duration in the step edit

when i play for example the same note that i recorded in the step edit i get te event for the note (otherwise its empty)

so when i click the note very short tere, i get the same short sound when using te SOFT 3 (play event) button, when i change the duration value to sth like 250 i get a full note etc

logical, but i cant apply this to the sequence, and after all it should record the note as long as i played it in the first place

just wait for the new os. dont drive yourself crazy

this OS is madness, hopefully 3.10 also takes care of this issue...

also no way to use the complete ASR keys with only 2 MPC Banks

i ve no idea how it works and is reached as there is only a BANK 2 button

but Roger Linns 3.10 doubles to 4 Banks

my layout is 1-8 ASR 9-24 Logic an 25 SE1

is there a way i can lay down several Tracks for teh SE1 ?

i somehow think thats not possible but maybe i am forgetting something!?
