but, im curious.

while you were out digging crates or whatever it is you do to find the songs that inspire you to create. what song has intrigued you the most? i know a lot of stingy peeps out there dont wanna give away your samples or whatever, im not asking you to give away your shit. (cause i dont care about em) what interest me is how people become exposed to a wide variety of music while digging crates, list the ones that have stuck out to you while you have been seeking the classics. list as many as you want. i'll start.

been in this for a looong time ,i just dig for classic's i like,i'm a dj first so i buy to play out not for sampling. sampling is a plus if the record has some goods on it

This is nearly off topic. but

Sup ede Just got given "Planet Rock the Album" today, reissue but thats all good.

When diggin half the time I just grab it if I think it looks cool, or has musicians that I know of ie philly joe jones, hank mobley.

Most of the places I dig at, the shit isn't more than a few bucks a pop, so if I buy a dud, it's not like I spent $15 on a new album or something. The more places you get out and dig, the more you'll learn what's gold and whats not. You'll recognize artists, record labels, even the year they came out in.

I've bought a lot of crap over the years, but that has helped me quickly search when I dig now.

As far as "giving away" my digs / samples, I feel that with the same record, many people can do such different shit with it, that it doesn't matter.

Well lately things have kind of changed for me. I picked the Systems first record up just recently called "sweat". I was familiar with David Frank and a few of they're songs (you are in my system) etc...But it took me forever just to find that one record.
And man....I love their early 80's Electro Funk sound, it's just like nothing else from that time or even now. So I've been studying that whole album like crazy, BPM's used, song structure, synths etc...Because I've been trying like crazy to teach myself some proper synth programming for a minute now.
But yeah..David Frank is the f*ckin' man.

i love to dig in old dusty crates specially at the flea market in Florence (Italy, my city). there's always good stuff in the only record stand on the market (and Filippo, the owner, always made good prices also for original pressings in good conditions)
one of the last time iv'e been there i copped the "world destruction" 12" by Time Zone (80s us pressing) for 5 €, the "Can't truss it" 12" for 2 €, "The shape of Jazz to come" by Ornette Coleman for 6 € (!!!), a lot of jazz stuff in there

I got a .50cent album, Ray Charles Singers, that has a song on it, with an eerie guitar solo. I've never been able to put the song into a beat, but it's always been that sample that makes me want to try it every day, but it just needs the right beat to go with before i waste it, you know?
