I've watched some videos on the 5000 and it looks like a powerhouse. Should I just keep my 1000 or get a 5000 and use it instead?

Sorry to cluster this forum more. I just don't hardly post and decided I would ask before i handed out $1800 on this. Thanks in advance.

I don't do pc apps or pc production, I like the hardware feel.

Is there any way you can get your hands on one to demo? Maybe instore, or a an acquaintance? I've considered upgrading my 1k to a 2500, but I'm satisfied with my 1k.

What about a 4k? Also, ask yourself this, will this really aid your producing? Or could the $$ be better spent.

More of a personal decision if ya ask me.

I'm gonna jet to guitar center in a bit and try one. The $ can be spent elsewhere, but I really like the 5k screen and the built in hard drive and the 1000 I have is the older one with the old pads. I have a nice chunk of change to spend and kinda wanted to use it one some new gear.

I'd say depends what you're aiming for... A 1k with like a Virus TI or something is in quite a few ways as good/better than the 5k.

On the other hand if the 1k is your one stop shop now... well as you said 8 track disk recording more input types, bigger display are definitely nice.

Been considering the upgrade from the 1k to the 5k myself, but with JJOS and all the upgrades/mods for the 1k it's just not *that* tempting yet. Maybe if they ever dropped an os V3 for the 5k I'd pull the trigger, but until then I've got nothing but time.

I've just bought a MPC5000 with selling my MPC1000 in mind.
4 weeks later I'm thinking in sell the MPC5000 and keep the MPC1000.
Perhaps it is because I mainly use the MPC as midi sequencer with an electric piano and a couple of sound modules.
But for me the MPC1000 is most stable and always work :)

The problem is that once you've got JJOS it makes the system so dang refined that it's pretty hard to justify the switch.

Personally if I had the $ for a 5k and already had a 1k, I'd probably get the 1k fully upgraded with hd/memory/pads (what maybe $300?) JJOS is around $125'ish... you'd still have at least $1k to blow on something sexy like a new sound module, synthesizer, etc... Yamaha Motif ES, Roland Fantom XR, Virus TI Desktop/Snow, BloField, Moog Voyager Rack...

I mean holy smokes, for the price of a 5k you could probably get 2-3 of those if you went used and got a pretty good deal.

yo,im really feelin the 5k now.im kind of hooked.its nice to have the synth there also.from my experience comparing the 5k(with 1k an 2.5k) has the biggest sound.dont think jj can change that.the 5k is beefier.lots of knobs and sliders.and the screen is worth it for me.i would not use the 1k or 2.5k because of the boring screen.i mean your looking a lot at it,right?hey, its working for me!im enjoying the bad publicity also.aha, the underdog.second had prices are down.o s maybe comming also sooooo.im sure there all great machines tho.akai magic.( :

I already had the mpc1k maxed on features since I got it. All it needed was the jjos2xl.

But I think I made up my mind. I'm going 5k with some added equipment. I don't need a fantom xr or any of that. And I have more money besides what the 5k costs. I may get a m50 but idk yet.

The 1k's screen is so small and I have to angle it with a laptop pad to be able to see it comfortably. Don't get me wrong. I love the 1k and think it's a beast. I have watched lots of vids and read elsewhere and have no clue why people seem to dis the 5k.

Well keep both then ;)

With the two hooked up... 96 note polyphony... 320mb of sample memory. Who could complain with that?

I've got the 1k and the 500. When hooked up together I usually use the 500 for one shots and use the sequencer/chopper on the 1k.

You could certainly do something similar with the 1k/5k. Have the 1k autoload your favorite samples, and 5k be your workhorse/sequencer.
