Just ordered a 160 Gb Samsung Spinpoint M5 HM160HC for a terrific deal (40 Euro / 60$).

Will keep you informed how easy it installed (hopefully).

I just installed the 160 Gb Samsung Spinpoint M5 HM160HC into my MPC....and after formatting under the latest Akai OS i still have 152GB left... 8)

I also bought a enclosure which made it very easy to copy all my samples onto the new HD.

Very happy with the result so far.

I ordered and just received the same drive. Works perfect. Something to note: I formatted it twice, under JJOS3.9 and Akai OS v2.21. With both it would read 127GB free. After formatting for a third time under the latest Akai OS (v2.24) it now reads 152GB free. So if you want to get the most out of your HDD, format under the newest Akai OS then reload your OS of choice.

On that note, I'm so amped to have a 160GB HDD built in. Huge step up from the 100mb floppy zip disks on the ASR-10.

basically any 2.5" laptop hdd will work.
optimal specs: 120gb 8mb min cache and 5400rpm. higher rpm cause more heat and noise. and there dirt cheap.
i got a 320gb hdd for my laptop for like $60 shipped, toook the 120 out and popped that into my mpc. sweet

Im going with http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital ... 666&sr=8-1

and ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... DII8M9Z5GS

Fingers crossed they both work. I've read reviews about them.

For the price it's cost me for the 1000, the HD25 headphones, the HDD and RAM I could have got a 2500. But I'm happy all around. Parents will freak for the second time when they notice I've killed nearly 1k (sterling) on this. Expensive hobby, lmao.

Is the Akai OS (v2.24) NEW? I remember reading here that the first 2 AKAI OSes had that file corruption issue, that you would be basically fekt if you didn't format with the JJOS. If 2.24 is a new OS, as in after the first two, does it still have the corruption issue? If not, hell yeah 160 GB! Otherwise, 40 extra GB, dunno if that'd be worth it. lol I only got a 40gb HDD ganked from an ancient laptop now....started clicking so I backed it up. 2 weeks later, still working, but it's time....

60€ for 160GB is a great choice!

Interesting...

I wonder does OS2 support 160GB? I thought the MPC used FAT32, :?: :?: but apparently not for OS2XL?
