Unable to play back sample

Looked everywhere on these forums and manual but cannot receive an answer to my problem. I am trying to sample from a record and when I sample from the sample screen and play my sample back all I get is white noise, static sound. What does this mean? Thank you for your help...

But do you hear the sample source through the MPC before you record it. So can you pre-listen it?
Or don't you hear a thing??? so even before you recorded/sampled the desired sound?

I cannot play back the sample. The only sound I can get is the metronome sound.

I got my technics going into my mixer. Double RCA males from mixer into amplifier. double 1/4" male from mixer to MPC.

my bad lamp. Aight second try... When you say getting a signal does that mean there are those squares/checkered squares that are flashing? if so yes and they increase if I turn up the REC gain. The white noise also increases.

Back to setup. My mixer has a set of double RCA wires going into the input of the mixer to the output of my amplifier with no adapters. The mixer also has another set of RCA outs from my technics with no adapters. Lastly the mixers has a single 1/4" male wire double sided 1/4" male going from the mixers input to my MPC's input with no adapters.

Check the grounding from tt to mixer, also check cables. Try coming out of your mixer headphone output. Or even better another sample source if you have a lack of cables. Go piece by piece and follow your signal flow. Hard to guess the problem without seeing for my self. Best of luck.

Not sure if i understand what trying another sample source means. I have tried sticking cables in different inputs, still nothing...

i know exactly what the problem is because it happen to me when i got mpc 2000 classic i thought i bought a screwed up mpc, i would hear white noise and sometimes couldnt even sample but i could hear the metronome. the problem is that your ram probably isn't set right or went bad in my case it went bad so open you your mpc get to the ram pop it out and you'll have stock 2mb but you wont get that problem no more. i hope it helps try it and let us know what happens, one!

I opened up my MPC classic and there are two slots for ram, and only one stick in it. I took it out and I still got the white noise after trying to sample. So would I need to buy new ram? Would regular pc ram work?

take both of them out. but go on mpcstuff.com to get the ram, regular ram wont work

Make sure your cables are right also.If you have 2 mono cables out have 2 mono cables in.If you go from 1 stereo in to some sort of adapter(splitter)make sure you have 2 stereo channels into the MPC.
