Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Im a begginer, but eager to get some drums onto my mpc. i have tried various formatting on both the pc and MPC(although i cant get the mpc to detect the cf card to actually format it!)..i'ved tried loading minimal files onto cf card with no joy, i have got 2 things that could be the problem...
-Does the OS have to be specific to the card reader?
-If not that, then it must be the CF card itself?
I have a Transcend Compact Flash 512mb 80x, and a iFlash Compact Flash 1gb, the mpc didnt like the 1gb card so i have steered clear off that, but i cant get MPC to detect the 512mb card, not in SCSI ??,the only thing it detects is an F-ROM device?

-hit SHIFT+LOAD (nr 3 on the numeric pad)

-then hit SETUP (F4)

-Change your primary device to show ATAPI

You're set to use your CF reader now. Happy new year!

Appreciate the reply, happy new year b!
I've tried to change the primary device to ATAPI but it hasn't got that option? The only options are Floppy,SCSI 0-7 or F-ROM??....is this because i have the wrong operating system loaded to the MPC?...and if so how do i load a new OS if it isn@t reading the CF card?do i have to connect to the pc?

It's not really "installed" if it doesn't show up on that setup screen that kebzer is talking about.

You'll need to go inside it and check those CF cables (power and data). Check if there is a jumper on back of
the drive, should be like Master/CableSelect (CS)d and Single. Jumper to each of them separately and turn on your machine
following kebzer's steps. If you see Atapi in the screen then you've done it right. If all lights on your machine lightup then
your data ribbon or power is loose or backwards.
