This really 500, or some 500 with a DAW/super trigga or whatever mangling/chopping plugin? If you've got the patience to glitch out on the 500 like that, sweet. If you're doing beats on the 500 and then bringing into the DAW I'm not quite so impressed

.
>>> It's all live with a MPC500, no edits. No computer during performance or afterward. All the sounds are made by me with a microphone and cut to size with soundforge 3 before being dropped on the pads. The sounds are heavily altered by my other instruments. I use mixer feedback, several effect pedals and some that I built myself. I have no idea what a DAW/super trigga is, or care.
A few thoughts... I'm feeling a bit of an edIT vibe. If you don't know who that is check it out, might give you a bit more focus for where to go with your tracks. Feel out the tracks a bit more... chopped up melody lines/vocals would go a long way to tie what you've posted together.
>>>> The point of the tracks is that they're improvisations within a basic idea I have in advance, and then give myself a few minutes to carry it out. I have bands with LPs of written music, but I've become bored and now I've just been enjoying improvisation a lot more. There is melody in these tracks, it's just not obvious or my main interest at all.
Borrowing Sugar... not my thing. Several parts I was ready for it to break out and get something going somewhere. A few good ideas here, but a lot of filler. A bit too self indulgent for me... but whatever floats your boat.
>>>> No filler. If self indulgence is making a rhythmic track out of a pair of 2x4s, I guess I'm an **** then. Also keep in mind the track is barely two minutes, and these tracks are played in a dance/techno setting. I shouldn't have to explain this, and I'm glad the track doesn't move you.
Memo Pad... nice surprise after Borrowing Sugar. Needs some polish or perhaps a bit more direction, but not too shabby. Definitely some good ideas here that I think came together a bit more.
>>>> This track was meant to be minimal with subtle change, focusing on the bass. This track sounds nasty on a big PA system and mixes well, which is all I was going for.
Hereditary... After it ended I thought it was a break and needed some more. For me it was just starting to come together/get interesting. I'd cut what you have in half, not sure what/where to lose it but I'd have the 'end' be a pregnant pause and then drop into some seriousness. Don't know about others, but this would be a track I could see having fun remixing.[/quote]
>>>> This is the one everyone likes. All created from dropping a padlock in a bathtub. Thanks for the critiques and taking time to listen, it's interesting to hear how others perceive sounds that are completely satisfying to the artist.
