Do you hear different sound quality between JJ and Akai 1.24

For a while now been using jjos and finally come to the point where i feel I will be going back to Akai os.

I do a lot of pitch shifting and time stretching, jjos just does not cut the mustard for me, I loaded Akai os 1.24 and these functions are far superior in terms of sound quality.

I know the MPC is nopt the best at these functions and software does it a lot better, but I prefer to keep it in the box.

Plus I see aload cats on you tube using MPC for time and pitch shifting.

For work flow JJ got Akai beat hands down

you are right about the diff sound quality...they have different algorithms and envelopes on the sound....akai's is very flat response and the jj os has lots of coloring...you can def look it up somewhere but i cant remember where i read it and i even saw graphs showing the difference.... makes me want to try the akai 2.12 os and compare it to jj os...im still waiting for my mpc at this moment but it should be here soon.

akai os adds a small attack envelope on all samples (to help take clips offf badly chopped samples) JJos does not add this- it assumes that you can chop, and apply a small attack manually if you need it.-- this is a btter method for most users.The graphs you mentioned were too do with this.

the only other sonic difference is with the filters in os2and xl, everything else will be the same.

the filters act and sound different in jjos xl?

does the akai os really have better pitch shifting?
i've never actually used it but i would be really suprised if this turned out to be true...

Try it, my ears certainly hear the difference for me its a big difference enough to switch back.

I have to to admit I do miss the work flow of JJ, might experiment with processing samples with 1.24 then chopping and sequencing in JJ

I actually don't use either TS or PS much these days, but when I used them (back in Akai OS days and maybe early JJ) my impression was that there were no real conistency with the results of the processing. Almost as if the same settings could yield different results depending on mood.

As said before I'm not a user of the specific functions, but I find it improbable that JJ had went in and altered the TS / PS algorithms. Anyone who has seen any mention of these in any of the version/bugfixes -specs?

The talk about an overall different "coloring" in the JJ I think boils down to mindgames, what one expect one alson hear. And to my ears no envelopes has ever changed the "color" of a sound, but that might be a question of semantics...
