Cracked Screen/Repair Advice

I got a Blue 1000 with a cracked screen that has been out of commission for over a year now. Was about to purchase a replacement screen but before i made the purchase, i decided to plug the machine up and make sure there arent any other issues. The screen is cracked badly on the left side and about 1/4 of the screen is still visible. heres my problem.... i can use the arrows to navigate to different fields, but when i turn the data wheel the values do not change. what im wondering is A) is there something wrong with the data wheel also or B) since the screen is cracked, will the values not change anyway when i use the data wheel.... Any tech heads that might have any knowledge/advice on this, id appreciate any input. thanks

when you use the cursor can you see any changes on the screen? Because if so, you should also see changes on the screen. If its not then you may need to replace the encoder too. Its not that big of a job for either repair. Where are you located?

Poundaproblem: Thanks for the reply man. The only changes i see on the screen are when the JJ OS loads up, and then the main screen loads. After that im able to use to arrows to select different fields but cant change the values on these fields. Also the Fuction buttion (F1,F2, etc) gets no response either. Im located in Chicago. From what u are sayin, its lookin like i might have to replace to encoder also. Any additional tests i can do to see if thats the case? Appreciate the input man.

ok well if you can select items with the arrows and you can see the fields change, but you cant make changes with the wheel I would definitely think its the encoder. With the F1 and F2 it can be a tact switch but Im willing to bet the board for the F keys is damaged. You may want to check out mpcstuff and start putting together a list



Did this MPC fall on the floor? you said the screen is cracked on the left and the F1 and F2 dont work. Just wondering how messed up this thing might be, I asked where you were located cuz If you were in NY I would have taken a look at it.

Thanks again P....Great advice here, this is exactly what i wanted to find out. Ima check into the board for the F keys, and make a list of all the shit i need and see how much $$$ all these parts amount to cuz one of my doods is offering to sell me his blue 1k pretty cheap, and that might be the wiser way to go. I just was tryna salvage this one since i got the JJ OS, HD and pad upgrade all installed on it already, but i guess i can also install the pads and HD on this other 1k and just up the money for JJ Os again. Decisions, Decisions to make......Thanks for all the help man and i appreciate the offer to check out the machine.Might have to see if any repair spots out my way can check it out and give me a better idea.

bit late on the reply for this one. i'm now based in Chicago. i've used Deltronics once before (2911 halsted). they replaced a tact switch for me - i can't solder ; i haves too much shaky hands. they did it in there in a couple of hours while i went record shopping. it cost 60$ which i suppose isn't really cheap, but, it got done with minimal fuss... my machine is actually in there again at the moment - seems to be a glitch in the circuitboard [?!].

interested to hear if anyone has any feedbackc about this place or other recommendations for a techniciation in CHicago.
