This might be a bit too obvious, but I really couldn't find any threads related to this. I have MPC1000 with full memory and I find using the CF cards too slow. If I'm using a lot of audio stuff, it takes ages to load them off CF. So the question is: does the HD speed up sample loading/saving? Another question is: does the CF card itself make any difference. ATM I'm using some basic 1GB sandisk cards.

I got a 120 gig hard drive in the 1000, haven't noticed much of a loading difference, more a conveinence of being able to have EVERYTHING onboard the mpc so no switching cards/ losing cards etc etc

Hey Jarkko. I'm kinda new here too and was wondering about this as well. Try the following posts - I found the info really useful (plus it saves pissing off the old boys by asking them to re-answer questions  )

great stuff from Mekishiko (it took me a few reads to "get it") about what governs the speed of cards and hard drives

check out Triple-X's post on CF vs Hard drive read/write speed test

Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for your responses!

I made some testing and bought Kingston 133x 4GB card. JJOS had no trouble formatting the disk. The test project has just one midi track and one converted audio track (mono, 5min20sec).

Here are the results:

Old Sandisk: Read: 27sec, Write: 30sec
Kingston 133X: Read: 8sec, Write: 9sec

Faster CF starts to be quite acceptable!
