Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Link below is for a MPC 200Xl being sold in London, UK.

Seems like a reasonable price given the condition of the unit.

My question is how serious would you consider the screen fault to be?

Does the fault usually start with a few lines then gradually get worse? Or does the screen only deteriorate with further abuse, i.e. being shipped across the UK? I'd hate to get this unit and then to gradually loose the screen.

Similarly, if the unit has been roughed up and scratched does this mean other buttons/connections/important stuff is going to be dubious too? Is it reasonable to assume this unit is on its last legs?

I understand getting this unit is a risk, but I wouldn't mind trying to fix it up at the same time as producing.

All thoughts, comments, advice gladly received.

Understood. Thank-you both for your comments.

I asked the seller for more photos to get a better idea of what he is working with. I researched that a new screen would cost more than the price of this unit and can't imagine that it is fully functional.

I think a better strategy is to hold out for a better quality example where peace of mind is included in the price. So I would be happy to talk to anyone in London/South-East UK thinking of selling a 2KXL in the next month.

This would be true if the op was living on that side of the great pond. Over here in europe there are far less of them divided across about 20 countries. Meaning both physical and lingual borders between sellers. Also the costs of shipping from the states (or another country inside europe for that matter) are going to be big part of the purchase price.

That said yes, stay away from that thing :)

Thank-you.

I am actually very excited about this MPC. Sure, it looks to be a good example but to me it represents a certain kind of freedom.

Now I certainly don't expect to change the world with it, but if I can start to capture the rhythm, vibes and melodies in my mind I believe my world will be a better place for keeping these fleeting ideas alive.

Just to clarify -- I have absolutely no idea of what I am doing, but I can hear the sound and feel the beat so clearly that I have no question about this being a great adventure.

Again, thanks for your words of caution/advice -- it was appreciated.

As far as I am aware the 2KXL did not sell on eBay.

I had asked the seller for more details/photographs but I did not receive a reply.

I would assume there is still a deal to be made.

If you do establish contact/a deal let me know how it turns out.
