track recording question....

In one sequence I got about 6 drum tracks(hi hat -track 1, snare-track 2, etc.) then I recorded about 3 midi tracks after the drum tracks in the same sequence.( for example: kick-track 3, cymbal-track 4, guitar-track5, fingered bass-track 6, etc.) The instument tracks are recorded through midi. For some reason when I try to record lets say, another midi track, it doesn't record. Why is this?

I have the same problem....This one has been killing me for awhile..
I have my MPC 2000 hooked up to a Roland JP 8080 synth. So I record my first little piano melody on Track 1 MIDI 1A of the MPC, no problem, then I want to change the patch on the JP 8080 to a Bass sound, and I want to record this to Track 2 of the MPC, No matter what I try It will not work, ultimately when I change the sound to a bass sound it changes the piano SOUND ON TRACK 1 to the bass sound. How do I keep the piano sound on track 1 while I recording different sounds onto the other tracks. ??

HOW DO YOU RECORD DIFFERENT MIDI SOUNDS FROM YOUR KEYBOARD ON THE DIFFERENT TRACKS WITHOUT CHANGE THE PREVIOUS MIDI TRACK....

Not to insult anyone's intelligence, the midi keyboard or sound module has to be in "multi-mode". If the instrument isn't in or does not support multi mode you'll have this problem.

always refer to your keyboard maual , thats where it will tell u. and make sure your keyboard is multitimbral and u name your devices properly.

O.K now lets asume the keyboard (i have the roland JP8080)does infact have "multi-mode". and is activated.
I should be able to record different sounds from the the MIDI keyboard on different tracks on the MPC No problem?

Firstly, it doesn't look like the JP808 is multtimbral. In other words: no multi-mode. Which means that you're limited to splits using the limited ten note polyphony. Which means that you can only record a maximum of two different instruments and that's only if the parts don't ventue in to each other's zones. If the 8080 is your only sound source there won't be much gained by naming devices as you only have one. Get a multitimbral sound module.
