Incredibly true, but I don't understand how kids always say vinyl has a more [*insert audiophile term] sound

Well for a start you've got a straight arm tt and possibly an old/ badly set up needle. These things make a big difference, once you get rollin with a nice needle properly aligned and everything you will realise

That's what I've been wondering. The needle in it is new, and the TT has an S arm as well (which can be swapped out) which I put a Whitelabel on, but with those it sounds even worse. I'm wondering if my TT is f***ed

set up your needle according the generic protractor's baerwald arc to start with - see if you get any improvement.

Have you had the same bad sound playing that record on someone else's setup?

Yeah, I actually went ahead and ordered a brand new Pro-Ject 1 Xpression III ($750 - entry level audiophile) which came with an Ortofon 2M Red factory fitted. The Beatles record still sounded bad on that and on a local record store's TT, so it must've just been a bad vinyl...

my other records have been sounding a lot clearer through this new table though, which is nice since I get a lot of instrumentals/b-sides from rap records which were usually drowned in bass. I haven't burned these to CD to test in my car yet but for now my faith in vinyl's renewed

People have been using technical arguments to show that cd's are better than vinyl or the other way around for years. I don't think it can be done.

I'm not sure if i could tell a CD from vinyl in a blind test. But i really love diggin for, buying and listening to vinyl. And i rarerly listen to the cd's i have. I not so much about the sound, it's cultural thing i guess.
