Can't install os2 on my mpc 1k. "File too big: Cant execute"

I'm having problems switching from os1 to os2 or os2xl. I can download all the files and they save as .os2, but when i drop them onto the cf card they dont show up on the mpc screen unless i change the file extension to .bin. This was how i installed os1, but when i try with either of the os2 files as a .bin, the mpc says... "File too big: Cant execute!" Has anyone come across this problem? I'm running mac by the way.
I intend to upgrade to os2 after using 3.09 for a few years now, but so far I havnt paid for any codes. I don't need the os1 code before I can test os2/os2xl do I? I was under the impression I could try any of them but just wouldnt be able to save.
Also, is os2xl an update that you get if youve already brought os2, or is it a third cost?

if you change the file extension it ain't going to work. i don't think you can try-before-you-buy with os2xl

Hey there, it says on the JJ site -

If not OS1 of Ver4.98 or more version into which the password was entered,
the OS file of OS2 will not be displayed on the screen of load.

If not OS1 of Ver4.98I or more version into which the password was entered,
the OS file of OS2XL will not be displayed on the screen of load.

so yes you do need the OS1 code before you can try OS2 or OS2XL

oh and OS2XL is a third cost.

you can buy it straight off and get OS2 and OS2XL (after the purchase of OS1) at once or you can get OS2 and then upgrade to XL later for a reduced cost
