firstly im sorry if this is in the wrong forum but there are two points to this thread so didnt want to double post...

i have decided to buy an mpc 2000xl with 32MB upgrade. i have been reading about it a lot and have skimmed through the user maual i downloaded from the akai website... but i have one thing im not sure about. so the first question is about the operating system... do you always have to load the operating system from the floppy disk everytime you turn the mpc on? i presume you can then take it out to save files etc once it is up and running? can you not just turn it on without the disk in? also do you just turn the mpc off when you have finished your session on it? as i have typed this paragraph i have realised these sound really obvious things... but help would be much appreciated.

second question is just about your thoughts on a couple of peices of kit... the yamaha mg10/2 mixer (to connect mpc, computer and dj set up to) and either alesis monitor 1 mk2's or krk RP-5's or the RP7's?

finally how much musical knowldege do most people on this site have? do you find it a hindernace not knowing about music thoery or not having played an instrument when using the mpc? i have played the drums for several years so will this provide me with the musical knowledge to use the mpc... if that makes sense!?!?!

do you always have to load the operating system from the floppy disk everytime you turn the mpc on?NO
i presume you can then take it out to save files etc once it is up and running?this was with the mpc 2000 you had to do this
Can you just turn it on without the disk in? Yes
also do you just turn the mpc off when you have finished your session on it? You save your work to you disk then you turn it off, when you turn it back on you will have to load what you have save on to disk

second question is just about your thoughts on a couple of peices of kit... the yamaha mg10/2 mixer (to connect mpc, computer and dj set up to) and either alesis monitor 1 mk2's or krk RP-5's or the RP7's? I would go with the rp7's and I would also get a mixer that could at least handle 16 inputs......If you decide to upgrade your mpc with the Ib m208p(8 channel output for the mpc 2000xl) you would run out of inputs with the 10/2

finally how much musical knowldege do most people on this site have? do you find it a hindernace not knowing about music thoery or not having played an instrument when using the mpc? i have played the drums for several years so will this provide me with the musical knowledge to use the mpc... if that makes sense!?!?!Most of us have some type of musical backround. You playing the drums will help you out because you already understand timing and what is realistic and what is too much You will be just fine

Welcome to the Forum and the Mpc family

The flash upgrade gives your mpc non-volatile memory t.t.s. data saved in flash ram is readily available when you turn the mpc on and is kept there even when you turn your MPC off. AFAIK nobody here has this installed in their mpc's due to little functionality and too expensive, you better gofor 32mb expansion + zipdrive.

thanks... will stick to the 32mb and zip combo...
