Please help me Syncing ASR 10, MPC 60 & Logic 8

Yes you can set that up the way you like it when needed. Its best to make a Template and save it as a project on a floppy and just load it up when you need it tho..

"• If recording from an external sequencer, set the ASR-10 to sync to MIDI clocks. On the
Edit/Seq•Song page, select CLOCK SOURCE=MIDI. Set this parameter to INTERNAL if
recording “live” from a MIDI guitar or other multi-channel controller.
With these parameters set, pressing the Record button places the ASR-10 into Record Waiting
mode (the display will flash WAITING. . .). If external sync is used (CLOCK SOURCE=MIDI),
recording begins with the first MIDI clock received after the MIDI Start command. If internal
sync is selected (CLOCK SOURCE=INT), then recording begins when the first note is received."



In other words the ASR is just waiting on a midi signal from the MPC.

They are different Types of Sync.
Read up on it and understand it, but you don't need it in this application.

and it did not recive any, because i didnt have those 8 tracks for the ASR set up in the MPC ?

or what exactly is it waiting for if not? because i tried messing around of course when it was in this podition, but couldnt get it to change ( i am not on it now anymore but i think it stays in waiting... and i couldnt leave that window as long as i didnt change it back to Internal)

Recheck your settings and make sure your midi cables are properly connected. I just got finished midi'ing up my ASR10 Rack to my 2500 and do not get the "Waiting" message.

Midi Out MPC to Midi In ASR
Midi out ASR to Midi IN MPC

ASR
Edit + System Midi
Midi Clock : Midi
Midi in Mode : Multi
Midi Controllers : On
Midi Base Channel : 1


MPC
Sync Out (B Master) <---- Or whatever channel your ASR is on!

I'm so used to using my ASRX and had put up my 10. Its back on the scene now tho.

i ve set up the MPC and the ASR as explained here
what i have now is, that pressing rec. on the ASR 10 gets in the waiting position and than pressing play on the MPC starts the ASR Sequencer... but i hear the ASR Click not the MPC one + the MPC Tempo is set to EXERNAL and i can not change it anymore for some reason :/

i still get the feeling that i am trying wrong... or is it right to record sequences in the ASR at all?

it also says "extern sync" on the bottom of the Main screen.... i figure thats also not how it whould be, but i ve set it all up like explained ...



here are all the MPC settings that i think have sth to do with this application more or less

(2) Drum data sent out: NONE
MIDI Drums chan: 1
(3) (trigger interface) probably not important at all.
MIDI IN: 1 OUT: 1 UNIT: 1 UNIT CH. 1


MAIN SCREEN:
Tmpo: (EXT) BPM (i cant change it for some reason)
ch: 1A DRUMS
ch: (off)

(EXTERN SYNC) (not modifiable letters on the bottm of the screen)



on the ASR the TEMPO: is at EXTERN

so both units seem to think they get extern Sync... and i get some weird shitty 30 BPM timing i think... and i cant change it

You are not supposed to be pressing record on the ASR if you are "Slaving" it to the MPC.

What you are doing is "Arming" the ASR by pressing record, so when you hit play on the mpc it started the ASR sequencer somehow.
You don't need to do that.

Just let the MPC do the work. The idea is to record your notes from the ASR into the 60 not the other way around.

Check your MPC settings in the Sync Screen

Sync Input
Mode: OFF

Sync Output
Mode: FSK24 Midi Clock: Out 1 <---- Set this to whatever OUT your ASR is on

The Reason why you cant change it is because you have it set to MASTER

Check Your Tempo Settings and change it SEQUENCE.

ok man, i did apply the settings the way you explained above

i loaded all 8 ASR tracks with sounds, the ASR settings are set up and sved as Global Parameter according to the other thread

i did try to record a sequence on MPC track 1 wich has Midi ch: 1A "Drums"

tried different times with different ASR tracks etc but there is nothign happening it seems...

reading up on the manual sync chapter now, but any further help apreciated as from experience i do not always understand gear manuals completly...

Excuse me for chime'n in, but let me ask dude, r u working wit some bad midi cables or something or you just don't truly understand this stuff?

And be honest, do you really know what you're doing? I'm not trying to be funny and whatnot, but you're really struggl'n wit this sh!t.

Have you checked out tweakheadz and grounded yourself wit most if not all of the stuff there?

since you got the same setup : ASR 10 / MPC 60 3.10 / Logic

i accidently killed my mpc template disk, but it was no problem to restore the settings

BUT now i am not able to play the SE1 or Logic Vst`s with the Keyboard of the ASR

any idea?
