MPC1000 live on stage

Hi guys,

So i've bought an MPC1000 and really dig it, that beast shakes hard, killer groove. I bought it with the idea in mind to do live shows (did loads of live gigin but almost always with a computer...)

So here are my questions:

- 1 program = 64 samples right ? That is my limitation without having to load another pgrm right ?
- to load the next program you've got to hit stop then load right ? hitting stop will stop MIDI OUT signal right ?

Those questions are indeed toward the live performances i'm after, i'm playing House / Deep House and i need
to play "longer" sets without musical breaks, i'm not playing one track and loading the next one to fire it up, i really
need to play for 1hour to 1h30 of non stop house music.

I'm hunting for some hints, my goals would be to kick my laptop out of the setup but till yet i can't figure out how...

You can change programs/sequences seemlessly on the MPC1000 without hitting the stop button...

...and you can have several programs in memory at once

EDIT1: so basically my "only" limit would be the MPC1000 memory, for my case 128mb ?

Yeah, that's basically correct. There is a limit on the number of programs you can load at one time, but it's a minimum of 24 I think and a maximum of like 99 maybe? It all depends on what OS you're running.... On the OS comparision chart it shows how many programs you can have on each OS... So yeah you're limit would be either the 128mb of RAM or the amount of programs you have...

Thanks for your input, really useful for me... Just another thing, how do you organize things; like Sequences matches Programs and Programs matches Samples ? is that basically correct ? i'm really looking to have plenty enough materials on the mpc to bump it for 1h30 min... I know i'll do it =) just time is short, live gig on the 23rd of jan hehehe... But i'll keep on reading... Currently backing up the HDD to reformat to host JJ-OS, i'm new to all that, but OS and BYTES i'm not afraid off..

I guess I'm not quite sure what you're asking... Can you elaborate?

Sequences are composed of tracks, and each track can have a different program, (but it doesn't have to)... You could either create one program per song, or you could create one or two program(s) that has all your drum sounds, another one that has all your bass samples, one that has all your lead samples, or whatever makes the most sense to you, and then on your different sequences track 1 could always be your drum program, track 2 could always be your bass sounds etc... (or you get even more detailed and do snares on one track, kicks on another etc..). Then you could easily mute certain tracks while playing live...

There's no right or wrong way really, it's all a matter of figuring out the various ways to go about it and then figuring out which way works best for you personally.

Again, Shupe, super thanks, you're enlightening me real fast =) got it with the tracks now, super easy... just mute the kick out on track one and the hats on track 2 and so on.. yeah great, super easy...

So is there any possibility to copy sequenced patterns that are all on one track to other tracks and delete the unwanted hits there ? (this not to loose my 1st tree beats which roooocks haha)
