mpc and bassline

anyone got any tips on making ur own basslines in a beat with the mpx i already have the sample

Well, this is how I would do it:

First, choose your instrument.
Maybe your loop is a hiphop beat, then you might choose an
acoustic bass pgm, for a jazzy feeling, or a pure sinus sample, maybe pitch modulated, for some plain bass.

now you can play the bass on the pads, or an a keyboard attched to midi in - more comfortable in this case, as you want to play notes. now play ahead, if you dont come up with something cool, listen to some tracks you like and look how they do it, or try a simple rhythm played with one note that fits with the beat, and the chosen instrument (not so great with that jazzbass).

Or ask someone who is a bassplayer if he would want to play something, sample it...this way you get basslines you cannot play on pads or keyboards.

I have a "sine bass" program up on my site (link below) if you fancy trying that. Another way is to use the sequencer to trigger bass from an external synth, then you get to use pitch bend, modulation, all that expressive stuff the MPCs sampler is not so good at...

If your doing hip hop (sorry to assume, but 95% of mpc users here do produce hip hop or the likes) to get a good head nodding bass line make sure the bass hits trigger with the kicks.. gives it a bouncy feel.. and keep it simple.. 2 or 3 notes only...
