MPC NEWBORN SEEKING IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

HEY I JUST PURCHASED A "BARE" MPC 2000 CLASSIC OFF OF EBAY AND I AM ALREADY EXPERIENCING SOME PROBLEMS. NOT PROBLEMS WITH THE UNIT ITSELF,BUT PROBLEMS WITH TRYING TO OPERATE THE UNIT.THE MAIN THING I AM CONCERNED WITH RIGHT NOW IS SIMPLY SAVING A FEW **** SOUNDS ON TO A DISK. I CHOPPED A BREAK AND HAVE 4 PADS LOADED ON BANK A. EVERYTIME I FOLLOW THE MANUAL AND ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE SOUNDS IT TELLS ME THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SPACE ON THE DISK. I DONT UNDERSTAND BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE FLOPPIES BRAND NEW. 1.44 MB 2HD'S. DO I NEED AN EXTERNAL ZIP DRIVE? THERE ARE ONLY FOUR PADS LOADED UP AND I CANT SAVE THE SOUNDS ON THEM!?WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? PLEASE HELP,THANK YOU.

Look at the size of your samples on the mpc, and then remember that 1 floppy can hold 1.44mb, not much at all.
the breaks are TOOO big for the itty bitty floppy. Your memory in your mpc is BIGGER than your floppy that's why u can have the samples in your machine but not on the floppy.

Iomega is the only brand for "Zip" Drives.

If you have a 2000 then you should get an external SCSI drive. It is very tricky to get an internal SCSI drive inside a MPC 2000 without some serious modification as the MPC 2000 does not have an internal port for this.

i got both one internal 100zip and scsi 250. been loading up sounds i had on cd and flashdrives over the past 10yrs
also you might want to change the chip inside to 32 mb thats the first thing i changed then got a zip250scsi

Can't have an internal zip on a classic without modification. External SCSI zip drives must have 2 grey switches on the back like this Image
no switchy, no worky.
100mb and 250mb are useable but remember, a zip100 drive will not read a zip250 disk. A zip250 drive will read both zip100 and zip250 disks. Check thrift shops and pawn shops near you then check kijiji craigslist and ebay for drives and disks (look for a lot).

depends on the size of yuor sample. i use to make a beat with one floppie but sometimes it wasnt enuff...the machine just feels better and more powerfull with a drive in it bigger then 1.77

I JUST CANT UNDERSTAND WHY I CANNOT SAVE 4 ONE SECOND SOUNDS ON A FLOPPY.THAT DOESNT SOUND RIGHT. MAYBE IM DOING SOMETHING WRONG. ANY ADVICE BEFORE I START SPENDING MONEY I DONT HAVE ON EXTERNAL DRIVES AND UPGRADES?

4 samples x 1 second = 4 second

44100 (samplerate) x 16 (bitdepth) x 4 (seconds) x 2 (stereo) = 5644800 bits

5644800 bits / 8 (1byte=8bits) = 705600 bytes

705600 bytes / 1024 (1kbyte = 1024 bytes) = 689,0625 kbytes

689,0625 kbytes / 1024 (1MB = 1024 kbytes) = 0,6729 MB

4 seconds stereo sampling in 44,1/16 = 0,673 MB

so it should fit on a 1,44MB floppy ;)




Did you use a fresh formatted floppydisk ??

Are your samples really 1 second long?
