MPC 1000 RAM question!

Hi

Im looking to buy an MPC and I think the 1000 model might be just right. Im new to MPCs but not to sampling, and this looks like it has a lot of features that I would use regularly.

However, I am wondering about the RAM upgrade....
I have a 2G apple RAM chip lying around. I know the 1000 can't physically use that much RAM, but could I install it anyway to max out the sampling capabilities of the unit or would this not work?

To get the full 128MB of ram get a 256MB chip..

You ask why 256MB?

The Ram is 64x4. meaning it has 4 banks of memory that are 64MB's Each
The MPC1000's hardware structure only can read one side of the ram chip or two banks if I'm not mistaken, (someone hear can confirm the right reason) anyway.. it will only read half of the Ram so there fore if you use 128 only 64MB will show up on your MPC1000. This is why we use 256MB so that 128MB shows up.

Also, you don't need the overpriced "official" Akai ram chip. Get you a cheap Kingston, it will do the trick just fine. If you've ever installed ram into a computer before it's the exact same thing, just pop it in. Hope that helps.

^^^im going to have to disagree as i have the 128 chip in my 2500 and it reads all of it..

hmmm. I've got a 256 in the 1000 and it seems to work fine. No clue how accurate that information is then. Anyway a good point is that there's nothing special about the official akai exm, pretty much any ram chip would work that meets the specifications, see below.
