Why not just open it in SF, chop it and save the samples in the format you want?

Notable fixes/changes in version 9.0b

I don't use 9.....i use SF10.Which i'm sure can open flac but like i said i can't really tell the difference.A sound is a sound a song is a song.The final mix and master determines the outcome anyways.

The quality of each sample is a huge factor in the final song as well, that's where it all
starts, with the samples and quality of them.

Lossless is not really loseless BUT it's alot more precise sample point for sample point than 320kbps mp3's.
The top end suffers on 128kbps and lower mp3's. 320 kbps barely suffers, you have to listen closely
to the top end to even tell.

WAV is an uncompressed audio file, so depending on your audio setup, WAV is close as you can get to the real thing
imo.

ps. Since it's uncompressed of course it's size is alot bigger than any same song mp3.

I've heard this before somewhere but have you any good site to read about this? I'm very interested in that cause since I've heard about that the first time I thought FLAC, APE, WAVPack were just zip/rar algorhythms modified to compress audio.


@stryke: Ok, It sounded to me like you wouldn't use it cause there are too many steps to go.
Well its ok if you dont hear a difference (I also need an A/B comparison and really need to concentrate) but think about the other listeners that might will hear the difference easier. It would not cost you more work but might could increase the number of listeners. :)

Ok. I havn't read it so far (I'm a lazy type of lifeform when it comes to read stuff :)). But I did some tests with the mp3 and flac format.
I took a part of a song from a CD rip. It was ripped as wav.
Then I saved this part in different formats:

1. mp3 320 kbps
2. mp3 192 kbps
3. mp3 128 kbps
4. flac (compression level 5)

For the mp3 I used best quality settings (without joint stereo and ish like that)
Then I loaded all the files to my audio editor (Adobe Audition) and phase inverted the wav format file.
Now some of you might know the phase invert "trick" to "erase" some signals from a stereofile. If not, search and you will find the math behind this :)

I took the mp3s and the flac file and placed them sample accurate to the (phaseinverted) wavefile in different tracks and muted them one after another.

Ok, if you did your homework you'll know that the signal we get here is the signal that will be lost by compression. You actual hear what you dont hear when you've compress the wave to mp3 or flac.

As you can hear. The flac example is absolute silent. So the original and the flac signal are 100 percent the same signal. Maybe there is some other stuff goin on while compression but its not hearable. I would call it lossless :)

I know exactly what your getting at with this experiment and I agree if you heard no artifacts afterwards then indeed it would seem that it's loseless. :lol: :lol:

So? Its not? Sorry, I didnt read the flac site you've posted. As you know english isn't my language and so its a bit hard to read AND UNDERSTAND stuff like that. (and I'm a lazy type of lifeform too ;))
Well I could imagine that something else is goin on there so my experiment doesn't count cause its thought in a too simple way.
I know there are a lot of things goin on that most people doesn't realize. I just did another experiment by recording a part of a vinyl at 96kHz, rendered this with a hipassfilter at 22kHz, transposed it down 2 oktaves. Since I heard whats goin on above 22kHz I'm really feeling strange when I record at "just" 44,1kHz :lol:

if you do all of that and hear what's left over then it's not lossless right?
That what you hear is what you are losing in a conversion correct?

If you do all of that and you don't hear anything left over then it's loseless right?
That what you hear is nothing so no loss when converting correct?

I'm not big into conversion anyway.
