MPC 4000 newbie

Hi,
after owning an MPC1000 since 2003 (with JJ OS as soon as it became available) I have finally found a good deal on a 4000 and bought it. I now have the unit sitting at the center of my studio. I have removed all the equipment that has now become redundant (my CD3000xl sampler, my nanoverb, my filterbank, my RM1x, my MPC1000...), I even ditched the mixing desk. The cable situation in the studio has now become manageable...
My setup now consist in the MPC4000, the monitors, the turntable and the cd player. And that's more than enough!

And I am so happy. I've been using the 4000 for two days now, I haven't had to open the manual once! every function is right where I expected it, and the machine embeds everything I liked in all the samplers I owned (s3000, cd3000xl, Z8). The sound is much better than the MPC1000 (the way filters move for instance, and even pitch modulation, everything is smoother and clearer). I love the Multi/part/programme architecture, just because I've been using that for years and it just comes natural to me.
My only rant up to now is with the Region/slice function that is much clumsier to use than with the MPC1000/JJOS. But it is manageable OK.
My conclusion is that the mpc 4000 was definitely designed with Akai rack sampler users in mind, rather than the MPC users, this is where it failed commercially...

I just replaced my mpc1000 (jjos) with 4000 as well -- found cheap on ebay. Unfortunately I've spent the past two weeks fixing and upgrading the unit. But it has been worth it. The workflow on the unit is great. I haven't gotten deep into the sampling yet. The pads feel much more responsive than the 1000. The wonderful big screen, usb keyboard support, dedicated buttons for every function... Now I understand why and how people make this unit a central part of their studio.
