i'm pretty sure it's only for controlling external gear from the mpc (don't have my gear here right now to test it).
afaik - the MPC currently active track only responds to:
(MIDI CC Number02 or 74 => Filter Cutoff)
(MIDI CC Number71 => Filter resonance) (both OS 2/2xl only)
...& also pitchbend messages. (all os's)
someone correct me if i'm wrong on the volume thing, tho. i've never actually tried it.

its not hapnin at all down ere, and i do lotsa midi stuff normally, but not been mpcin for a good few months esp. not any midi shyte. not external action anyway.
it thru's any received data, and sends data, but not response in the programs for it, other than the above cc's u mentioned.
time to get the Z8 fired up.
