dont know if this pertains to how you want your layerd sounds to be triggered but, ive just recently started panning my layered kicks and snares 40% in one direction and like 35-45% in the opposite direction... also messing with the aftertouch feature might make your samples sound more dynamic... wish there was a way to have random or alternate panning on individual samples (like on the mv8800) to make your triggers sound livelier but oh well... part of being limited with a piece of hardware like the mpc is the beauty of the machine imo.
